ERR5009 from landrover dealership - few hundred quid. www.lrseries.com genuine = £293.74
No but's it got to be BOSCH! £50.00 should get you a low mileage one from a landrover breaker with couple weeks warranty and will see you right for another 120K miles or so - no real need to splash out needlessly for a new one unless you desperate for 12 month warrantly or plan on keeping vehicle for the next 10 years?
here some notes I made last time I replaced on a 300tdi...
Cheap rebuild or new aftermarket starter motors are cheap for a reason, they really are dire! Easily spotted, no manufacture stamps or named stickers, protruding fixings screws for the motor winding on the body of the housing. Do not except one of these if paying good money from a breaker yard! Do not part exchange a £££ Bosch unit for rebuilt piece of tat from an autoparts centre, get the Bosch rebuilt!
OEM starters come in 3 flavours, the older Lucas (later sold on and relabeled under the Valeo brand)and the Bosch. All interchangeable, fitted to the 2.5N/A, 19J 2.5td, 200TDI and 300tdi, defenders, discoveries and range rovers. They will have manufacturer stickers, they will have serial number stamped in the castings and in the case of the Bosch with have BOSCH branding cast into the motor body, and should also have the LANDROVER badge casting as well. A OEM starter motor will likely last 150K or more without a problem.
