I have a played with 300 disco, and i am (madly) toying with the idea of buying a 90...... i have found one that ticks all the boxes....... but it's a v8, now then,. dare i ask what sort of mpg i could expect from a v8 manual, its totally standard.... and left the factory as such..... the mileage is low, very low for its age, and it seems to be in good condition, on a decent chassis too!!
If anyone can talk me out of it, it'd be quite usefull, as i already moan enough about my current truck, but this would potentially replace the disco........

My old 110 V8 would do about 15mpg to and from work. On a run we managed over 20mpg. This level require mostly motorway use, but would include some surprisingly high speeds.
It was a breathed on 3.5 with 4 SU carbs, Piper cam, modded heads and Janspeed headers. So I would expect you to achieve at least this with a low mileage standard example.
Still quite scary figures when you are used to a 300tdi, but the sound is worth every penny :D

lpg? halves the running costs, just the tank takes up a fair bit of space

very light right foot required!

Hi
This is what I did:
Took a 2.5na out of my 110 and put in a 3.5su V8 and added a gas system with headers and a nice sounding bigger bore exhaust and MSD ignition so it would always fire up, souded beautiful, had it in there for about 3 years but now it's in a crate!
Didn't like water, so now it's got a 200tdi in it, really liked the V8 but in my mind it's not meant for a landrover that you take offroad, they do work well but like I found out they don't like the water and they drink fuel - even on gas. Gas - an additional cost to get it fitted - most insurers will ask for a garage certificate to say it's been fitted and is safe, I fitted my own!
In saying this I do sometimes miss the roar af the V8 but then I look at how many times I fill up!
My 3.5 didn't feel powerful enough for the 110, heard 3.9 have a tendancy to overheat and damage heads and if you go higher I presume you would get less MPG.
Personally I wouldn't go for it, sit back and keep searching unless you transfer your disco engine etc into the 90.

Thanks for the feedback, went and viewed it this eve, 25urs old, aluminium corricin in the floors, and rust big time in the bulkhead and seat box..:(.... probably worth the asking price due to the gav chassis, but not my money... drove ok, a bit sloppy, but i think that was mostly the g box.......
Thanks. I'll keep looking..!

I know of a nice 90 4.6 V8 auto on gas with virtually all the toys if you are interested- he only wants about £5k for it as well!!

15mpg or less.

If money is no object go for it,but if your like most of us mere mortals stick with your TDi!!!!!
