Title: Can anyone recommend a good petrol fuel system cleaner?
Post by: vtrdaz on March 23, 2010, 10:56:21
I'm trying to avoid removing and cleaning the carbs on one of my bikes due to a lumpy tickover - anyone recommend a fuel system cleaner??

Cheers

Take the carbs off and do it properly.

Any solvent is strong enough to clean deposits from the carb (carb cleaner) as it passes through and into a running engine is going to wash oil off the bores of the cylinders and cause very fast wear to the rings / bores / pistons.

Do the job properly once and not cause long term damage by cutting corners.

have you had the carbs balanced? if not its quite likely that could be the problem

You prob need them cleaned in an ultra sonic bath. I spent hours on mine, all types of carb cleaners etc.
Think it cost me £40 but got them back same day and after my hours of cleaning he said they were filthy
fitted, balanced and ran like a dream  ;)

Carbs have been balaced , but the tickover is still lumpy - looks like i may have to strip them after all.
