I know this problem has been covered many times before but I can’t seem to find a post on the subject so here goes again.
I know that if I fit a 300tdi gearbox from a Discovery it will have different gear ratios but what does that mean in real terms? I.e. what will it do to acceleration/ top end speed etc.
Is a disco box to defender a straight swap? Am I better off using a defender transfer box or a disco one if I use a disco main box?
Many thanks in advance for the help

Ok I've found out that fitting a discovery transfer box to a 300tdi defender gear box makes acceleration and top end speed a bit better but is a discovery gearbox a straightforward fit into a defender?

Quick answer no, high low levers in the wrong place, it can be done, but need to swap fifth gear housing and syncro hub, the transfer box will fit straight on no issues,

Thanks Mick

A 'taller' transfer box ratio will reduce revs at any given speed, but at the expense of slower acceleration.
