Title: How can you check how much a Disco's been lifted?
Post by: John Clayton on April 07, 2010, 14:50:28
I bought the vehicle with a 3"  lift kit on it (or that was what I was told anyway).  I then asked Exeter 4x4 for springs to lower it to 2" (so that I don't need castor correction stuff etc) and they worked out what the vehicle ought to weigh based upon what I told them it had on it (e.g. winch, rock sliders etc.), to calculate what poundage the springs needed to have.  The problem is that the springs they sold me don't seem to have made it discernibly lower and everyone who has seen the vehicle thinks that it is still a lot higher than 2"
I've got big wheels on it (16" and 235/85 Bronco Grizzly Claws) + the wheel arches have been cut out to allow for the big wheels, all of which makes it difficult to tell by eye how many inches of lift the vehicle's had.

does anyone have any good rule of thumb for measuring the lift, please?  e.g. measuring from the top of the axle to the highest point inside the wheel arch (and what the measurement is on a non-lifted Disco)?

on one of the sun visors there should be a sticker with the orignal height of the truck if not google it or look in a haynes manual sorry cant be move helpful but running 235 85 16 will kake it higher anyway mine has a 2 in lift with the same tyres think it make it about 5 or 6 inches higher but i have hd shocks fitted all round due to hd rear bumper and winch and bumper on the front

maybe your old lift had sagged as they do, now your at the stated lift height - which will also sag in time.

On the front end, a standard truck should have the panhard rod horizontal, it should pass right in front of the unused axle brakcet where it meets the chassis bracket.  On a RRC the eyebrow heights on stadard tyres are 790mm all round IIRC
