It is said electric winch have an advantage over mechanical driven winch because the winch can still be used with a dead engine.
I am wondering what that means in real world. If I had a popular non competition recovery winch like the Superwinch X9 installed in a truck with basic single standard battery setup in say a landrover 90. In worst case with the winch on full load and non running engine, roughly how many seconds of pull can I expect before battery is discharged to an unusable level?

Not long.
Here's a table of current draws for popular winches.

If the battery was fully charged it should easily pull the whole of the cabe in at full load.... or that may just be my tractor battery under my seat lol
