Title: Used tyre prices
Post by: gords on April 19, 2005, 08:53:41
As some of you may have spotted, I'm considering changing my tyres :)

The (serious) question is, am I likely to sell my Colway AT's (4 or maybe 5)? :-k

If so, what price would people think I could reasonably expect? They are about 5 month old and covered about 4000 miles.

Bang them on eBay, tyres always seem to do quite well.

I got £50 for my set of 5 Colway AT's on ebay albeit two of them were probably about mid-life.

If your set have good tread depth >9mm say I'd think they would be worth at least £100

The 4 tyres on the car have done around 4K, but the spare is brand spanking new and has never ben used.

Would it be best to sell (and thefore replace) all 5? Especially as I'm changing tyre type and doing a 2 week holiday in the Alps this summer :)

I don't agree about e-bay, people want something for nothing.  I'd say that anything s/h is worth around 50% of it's value new, give or take.  the problem with tyres is people with the money want to choose, not make do, plus it's not the best place to save money going for s/h, it's a safety issue.

In short I'd say sell them still on the rims if you can. it's the rims that people on e-bay are bidding for, not the tyres.

S/H Vogue alloys start at around £10 each to buy.

Or admit that if you get peanuts for them they're not worth selling and have 2 sets of tyres :D that way you don't have to compromise on your mud tyres and you can save them from premature wear.
