Title: Attempted fuel theft
Post by: V8MoneyPit on May 07, 2010, 09:23:23
Last night some scumbag tried to break into the fuel cap of my Merc which was parked outside work. The flap is the locked part, so they've tried to pry it open. Now it's bent to hell and the paint all around it is wrecked.

The worst of it is that there is only about half a gallon of fuel in it

I suspect it was someone who had run out of fuel and doesn't have the common decency to pay for their own. If someone had come prepared to steal fuel, frankly they would have got into it. These people failed. Looks like it was probably a small screwdriver.

Horrible to be a victim  :( . Have you reported it? Maybe you were not only one.

I'll have a word around the site to see if anyone else has had trouble. Looked at a couple of cars this morning and there wasn't any obvious damage.

The landlord might have something on CCTV, so I'm trying to contact him first. I suppose I should report it to the police? What do you reckon?

Easy to preach and I do not often do it (unless it's actively happening)... but thinking we should report all crime really, just to get it on record. Plus you never know they might have stopped someone in area and can tie them to this.

get it recorded. It's the only way true figures get recognised.I know how the Police Top Brass work, namely deploying resources where the figures show crimes to have occured.
It might have been the case that the thieving little scrotes may have left prints or DNA behind, so always report stuff straight away

Turns out they had a go at a van next door too. The column cowl was broken off and wires pulled out.

I've moved the car tonight and next door have done the same with their van just in case they come back.

The landlord is on his way over now to check the gate CCTV footage. I'll give the police a call once we've checked this.

Police visited this morning. It seems the 'nice people' the other night also attempted to break into the car body shop next door. So I suspect they were the target and the damage to my car was just a case of wrong place, wrong time

Grrrr!
