Title: my 110 fuel troubles.
Post by: fuzzy on June 01, 2010, 16:07:58
Hi guys, think I may have the answer to the current problem but i welcome any assistance/advice you guys might have. My 110 recently blew it's n/a engine up, I had a 2.5td languishing in the garage so I fitted it as a stopgap replacement, to start with it wouldn't run for more than 30 seconds I quickly realised that there was no fuel getting to the injector pump and after fitting the n/a's lift pump it ran fine and has done for the last month or so. This morning as i stopped to unlock the gates at work I noticed the engine was struggling to idle and every few seconds it sounded like someone was blipping the throttle. The fuel gauge has been notoriously crap since I have had the car and I put the lack of get up and go down to low fuel, I put a jerrycan's worth of diesel in and tried to start it up to go home but it just wouldnt fire at all, had a small amount of grey smoke at the exhaust but no sign of actually starting. I believe that the lift pump has packed up again, and will replace it tomorrow (paddocks willing lol) just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and knows of any other factors that could cause my symptoms??? :-k

I had a pin [ed - prod with a sharp implement] hole in the pipe from the lift pump to the injector pump, resulting in a lot of air being drawn in, when it did fire, it would only run for about 20 seconds and then die.
