Title: Security bolts
Post by: Highland_Defender on June 13, 2010, 00:32:22
Does anybody remember seeing a write up in one of the landy mags about security bolts for the front bumper etc?
It was recent i think....

It was like a steel cup you place your bolt through and then hammer a cup on over that to  stop theives putting a spanner on.
Someone must know what im on about...

Can someone tell me which mag and issue it was?

cant tell you which magazine or issue, but i think they are called armour caps???
I know that they were sold by scorpion racing so extreme 4x4 may still sell them.

I spot weld mine to bumper on one hex flat. Can grind back the weld or cut the bolt off totally when needed - bolts are cheap and easy to replace.

I did read the article in the past few days so I'll retrace my steps!

goodluck trying to trade with that oec4x4 company they don't answer any enquiry I have made to them ....... they don't want my money. Their website *news* section is out of date by two years so wondering if they near belly up. I would not go making any big orders and parting with money without first making sure your going to get the goods.

Would these be of any use to you? Its what I use to secure my winch etc after local pikeys had my last one away.

You don't need to use them for every bolt just a few here and there. 1 on top end and 1 on bottom of a stainless stud and jobs a goodun
They do other sizes as well 6mm 8mm and I think they do 12mm in the catalogue

You could also look at using hex or torx-type bolts, that'd slow the average person down as they're not likely to have those sockets and the outer rim is just a smooth circle. Combined with the nut protectors it couldn't hurt anyway.

If they want something badly enough they'll have it. The trick is making damn sure that they have to make a lot of noise and fiddle around suspiciously for a long time to get yours, as thieves aren't keen on either.

The armacap ones look like they wouldn't be too much hassle to defeat, maybe tapping a suitable size impact socket over the top or just simple levered off? The NOGO ones seem like they would be more troublesome to defeat, I ordered 4 from insight-direct to have a looksee (they sell in pack of 4).

The NOGO ones are the the choice for me.

Managed to get them at a very very cheap price, i'll be adding these to the website next week as ive taken some in for stock too.

I'll post pictures once ive got them and fitted them up.

May as well weld your bumper to the chassis! What a ball ache those things must be, I am always taking my motor in bits for one reason or other.

I welded my bumer to the disco then then I bolted the winch to the bumper with Allen bolts the hammered ball barings into the bolts ( good news ball barings are hard n can't be drilled ) bad news when winch needs workin on takes ages to get it off lol
