Title: odd noise after new turbo and timming belt
Post by: craigio fantastico on June 15, 2010, 20:35:21
Hi guys as the title says, I have changed the timming belt and put a recon turbo on my 300tdi but now it is making a strange hi pitched tapping/whistley sound that gets louder and faster with the more revs you put on.  With just a few revs it starts to sound like a sreaching belt I cant tell where on the engine the noise is comming from.  I have checked all the pipes and cant find any air leaks, is it possible the sound could be from air being sucked in from the 3 piece inlet manifold? any ideas on the cause or things to check would be greatly appreitiated  [-o<

the inlets shouldnt be in 3 pieces.....if it is then theres your problem
thats the exhaust manifold in 3 pieces. if its leaking there will be black soot marks on the suspect area.
it is possable to over tighten the belt which causes lethagic revving of the engine and a whine/whir noise when running.
make sure the inlet/exhaust manifold gasket isnt leaking aswel

Cheers extreme 90, have now solved the problem. It was the exhaust manifold gasket leaking, I tryed to be cheap and get a pattern part item but it was of very poor qualitiy so i have now replaced it with a genuine item and hey presto all normal.  You were right I did mean exhaust manifold when i was talking of the three peace item.  Thanks again for the help.
