Sounds more like CV joint has collapsed.
Either that or one of the half shafts has snapped.
-
I dont know how long it takes to wind up under normal driving conditions but I never use diff lock on road becase of this.. yup sounds like a bust diff or shafts
-
thought it would be the tranny end that gets nuked from wind up?
-
it was making a chatering noise when turning tight corners then there was a bang
standard description of a failing then failed CV joint...
it wil only drive when the d/l lever is over to the left
was it driving ok without the diff lock engaged before the bang?
when i turned in to my drive the left wheel locked up breifley
Another typical occurrence when a CV joint has gone.
Presumably it was driving ok without diff lock being engaged before the bang, having to engage diff lock to maintain drive would seem to highlight that diff lock wasn't stuck on before the event.
The descriptions are typical of a CV joint failure.
If you can change a wheel bearing then a CV joint is only a little further into the axle to change.

I can vouch for the ease of fitting a cv joint as i can do one, and i am a mechanical idiot :)

I can confirm the above statement ahahahah lol :afro:
-
cheers for the replys i will have a look aqt the cv joint first then
-
bit late, but, i totally agree, cv joint failure is 99.99999999999% certain to be the culprit.

as you all said cv joint totaly destroyed its self it has wrecked the swivel housing aswell oh well welcome back to the world of landies
