It doesn't help, but...
The antis hate us. Something like this won't change their opinions either way, so why worry? If we take it as a joke then it suggests we're far more mature than the bobbled ranters. Our best bet is to make sure that the bobblies are seen as a bunch of humourless, selfish boors who want to ban everyone else from the countryside while we're seen as a friendly, harmless bunch with an unusual hobby.
It would be nice to see some more balanced coverage of responsible 4x4ers, but I think the only way we'll get that is if we manage to infiltrate the media and make the programmes ourselves. I bet we have some talented scriptwriters, public speakers, techies and editors amongst us!

Like the daft bint on there tonight saying "you get further off road if your gung ho"

I shouldn't think LR were too impressed mind. For example, why was the driver attempting to turn up out of the ruts when the vehicle simply didn't have the tyres to do this? All it did was throw mud about and make him look clueless, which really wasn't a fair portrayal of the vehicle.
Tyres and driving technique are everything. The mainstream motoring press doesn't seem to have realised this yet - witness the 90 there on road tyres which, as you might expect, had some trouble recovering the D3. I know from past experience that in my Disco on M/Ts I'd just have rolled forward to take up slack in the rope then driven off gently. No fuss, no excess stress on components, and no damage to the trail.
My first reaction now to non-enthusiasts complaining about performance of one 4x4 or another off road is "what tyres was it on?". That D3 on some decent rubber would go pretty much anywhere you felt brave enough to take it, on road tyres it's a bit like expecting Usain Bolt to set a world record in flip flops!

Tow rope didnt look upto much either......

Ugh, don't get me started...Half of Youtube "towing gone wrong" videos seem to be people attempting snatch recoveries with unsuitable ropes, or misusing KERRs. You don't take off like an ICBM, that just throws horrible stresses on the recovery points, strap, etc. KERRs are downright lethal if misused, and should always be the last resort.
I'm glad to see that one of the top rated Youtube comments is along the lines of "You blithering idiots, behaviour like this is getting our lanes closed" (as are most of the others)!

Typical journos.
"Shall we do something that is based on fact?"
"No, that's doesn't get viewing figures up. Let's feed 'em a line of crap"
