Title: D2 viscous fan
Post by: SWEETY on July 16, 2010, 19:24:19
How can you tell if your viscous fan is dead. I'm wondering if mine is either on it's last legs or dieing fast. When you spin the fan when the engine is cold it spins easily & must do 1-2 full turns, when the engine is up to running temp it's a little stiffer but again I think it spins a full turn. My old jap motor's V/C used to roar on start up & when it was working but i've never heard this with the Disco if they do :roll:Oh it's a D2 V8 2000 model

the fan will rotate with the engine when first started up,then it will stop and just freewheel until needed i.e when the engine gets slightly warm or stuck in traffic apart from that you shouldnt hear it

When I replaced mine I found the new one span even more when cold but locked up like anything when hot, the worn out one was sort of stuck in the middle third.
