mines gold aswell i will say its very fast lol

could be just painted with gold engine paint :D
AFAIK its a term used where a specific engine overhauler (unipart?) takes a production engine and builds it from new in superior manner with upgraded components but not necessarily a higher state of tune (in terms of power output) - it's a quality piece built to run more smoothly and last longer than run of mill engine off the production line and was painted gold. I didn't know they still did it in recent times, goldseal engines could be found for Morris minors and Minis and other BMC cars of that era and was an option on a new car purchase.
You have to be convinced more than just with the gold paint when purchasing a 2nd hand unit or a vehicle that claims to have one in!

Gold seal and Silver seal were Unipart brands for their rebuilt engines and gearboxs. Silver seal is thoroughly rebuilt with new parts as needed, gold seal is pretty much remanufactured, new parts where possible so perhaps even a new crank, new cam (unlike silver seal) new pistons, all new shells, cam followers and rocker shaft. The block and head are kept (not sure about the ali head though but a cast iron one would be re-used).
The good thing about a remanufactured engine is that the catsing is stress-relieved in it's first life so is far more stable in it's second life.
They are always very well built engines and to all intents as good as new, so well worth having and worth looking after properly :D

rusty?? you can't tell the colour from factory due to the leaks in rocker cover gasket.

Original build ones are black aren't they? chassis black.
My mate had a 200 TDi gold seal and that was a minter, retro fitted to a VM car, low miles on the engine and went like stink.
