Thinking of putting one in my Discovery - where do you get them? Are they generally available from car spares shops, Halfords, etc? Mail order?
Oh yes, what's a good price?
-
not widely available very much doubt that Halfords would do them - you will probably have to go to a LR spares specialist like paddocks, DLS, scorpion etc.... i think there about £50 !!
-
Aha! Just found them listed at Famous Four (http://www.famousfour.co.uk/towing/enhance.html) for £32 + VAT & Delivery.
-
Gords
I've just fitted one to my Disco 300dti. Cost me £32.41 inc vat with free delivery from Paddocks if you spend over £50 online.
Made a significant impact to the motor. That said my old filter was clogged with mud so anything would have been an improvement. It's now much smoother than ever before, more throttle response at low revs and i get an extra 4 mph up hill...wow !!

Gords
P.S. you can't find them on their main page but follow the 'quick link' on their web site shop pages, then choose 'products by brand' then choose 'k&n filters' and you're away

I've found the filters - just need something else to get over £50 for the free postage

At the rate you are spending your money that won’t take long

Well actually, it's mostly "all talk, no wallet" :(
-
if you wait till gaydon rimmer bros will have a stand there selling them
however....
ive read in other forums that the K&n isnt that good for your engine in the long run
hmmm.
-
That's why they sell them by the millions all over the world.
Same could be said for 95% of the non-OEM stuff we ever fit to a our 4x4's. We're all mugs, we'll buy anything if it's packaged right.
-
ive got a k&N on my road car,the racer & will prob put 1 on my other 90 so i wouldnt say im a big fan of them l
-
I've got 1 on my V8i. £35 from Paddocks.
Wait till the show's Gords. You'll get one for a good price there

Umm, maybe ... but mine currently looks a lot like this (http://forums.mud-club.com/viewtopic.php?t=7860)
-
Had one fitted for a few years now, cleaned it twice and it still comes up like new, would recommend them to anyone :D
-
I've been reading with inserest,
I have one fitted and it's filthy.
What's the best way to clean it ?
-
You can buy a product from K&N for cleaning it Cleaning kit (http://www.knfilters.com/clningacc.htm), I've found it been enough with a mild rinse and a brush down.
-
I gave it a good blowing out with the airline today and got most
to dirt and stuff out of it, did notice alot of rust in it this due to
the Mantec top being fitted facing forward and rusting quite badly.
Thanks Andy.
-
instructions say be careful with pressured cleaning (pressure washer or airline)
-
Blowing with an air line is a good option, when I've rinse mine I've dried it well before refitting. Never tried the cleaning gear myself, be interested to hear if anyone has :?:
-
I'm sure common sense wins here, using an air line at the right distance away from the filter should be OK, up close blasting it might not do it any good.
-
I wasn't that close to it when using the air line.
What do you use to wash it Andy ?
-
Just some mild soapy water, found using an old tooth brush helps too
Last time I gave it a wash and blow dry, wife's job rubbing off on me
-
I'll give it a go after I've been out playing tomorrow.
The wife could do with a new toothbrush.
-
I've had K&N's on most of my Landy's and I've always use the K&N filter cleaner & oil.
Tap the filter to get the large stuff out, then a light going over with something like a paint brush (anything heavier and you risk pushing dirt into the filter or damage to the filter wadding between the wire gauze - that's also why they say not to use an airline) then soak with the filter cleaner and leave for 5-10 mins.
Rinse under a strong flow of water from a tap (flow going from the inside of the filter to the outside) and leave to dry.
Once dry, spray a new coat of filter oil on it, clean off the excess and refit!
Easy ain't it! :D
-
And how often/when do they recommend you do that?
-
Sounds easy Budgie,
Looks like I'l have to get some. :)
-

I normally check the filter during a normal service and also after playing in the water or dust, just to be on the safe side!
If you check the filter first and then clean it, if required, then by the time you've done everything else the filter will be dry enough to re-oil and fit! :D
I like the K&N cos it's easy to clean and doesn't matter if it gets wet, great for what we're putting them through. 8)
Paul, if I can get the cleaner up here then you should have no problems.
Reminder to self: Used last of the cleaner on last service, must get some more! :P
-
Forgot to say:
You should be able to clean the filter about three times with one bottle of cleaner and the oil will do for 5 or 6 applications.
-
How much does it cost and where is the best place to buy it from ?
-
when i was working in a performance tuning shack we used tfr(traffic film remover) in a big bucket to clean out the filters, its ok to use an airline on a K&N but dont use 1 on an ITG or pipercross filter as it just blows it to bits
-

It's called a K&N Recharger Kit and Famous Four (http://www.famousfour.co.uk/parts/parts_general.html#kn) are selling them for £8.50, althought if you've got an accessories shop near you who sell the filters then they should be able to get the cleaning kit for you.
-
Cheers, I'll keep a look out for some.
-
Yep sounds easy enough, will have to give it a go myself.
-
should probebly get one of those myself
(i'll get one at Billing)
