Hey guys. Well after going from a show winning moddified car i miss my exhaust so much. Does anyone know a place that sells custom exhausts for the discos? Also what about air filters?
Just want to make her more of a head turner.
Thanks

Yup then u can sling out hugeeeeee amounts of black smoke
-
I've got a disco td5 with centre box replacment pipe and side exit exaust I have no silencers on it and I'll be honest it sounds ace playing off road but doin 100s of miles down the motoway it winds the hell up out of me
-
I am thinking of taking out the middle and rear can, but leave the cat. I have found from previous experience when adding an K&N for example, makes abit more noise but not much.
-
so basically take out the mid box. White disco you saying you got a back box for sale? any pics?
-
Fit a V8? 8-[
-
You can fit a Defender downpipe to get rid of the cat and the flexible joint (which doesn't last more than five minutes!), straight thro centre box replacement and turn the pump up a touch - makes a bit of difference to power and noise

the back box i have got is not from a landrover but shore it could be adapeted to fix
will try get sum pics

Mine too. Straight pipe all the way through!
Lots of fun. Far too noisey for the road (but did pass the MOT). When coming home late I had to crawl along on tickover to avoid waking up my wife/toddler and the rest of the estate.
Put the centre box back in - bliss!

i dont even run an exhaust unless its m.o.t time lol turbo elbow then a bit of downpipe and thats it lol sounds ace lol
-
like everyone said just take all the boxes out the exhaust have a complete straight through system also doesnt matter about mot becuase they dont check emissions just how much it smokes . . and like chrisw70 said turn the pump up makes a big difference , done it on mine also got the exhaust coming out each sidepanel just before the rear arch . . . SOUNDS AWSOME
-
What the rest said.... no silencers make a hell of a difference then i wound the pump in and up makes a hell of a differencex2 and it smokes on demand which is nice for tailgaters.
-
I fitted a straight through centre pipe, didn't make much difference really so next thing is to get rid of the cat, I've got the pipe but not loking foreward to removing the manifold studs.
First thing is to get it MOT and running again though :-'
-
Rip out your carpets and sound deadening! plus loses some weight = faster :D
I run a 200tdi in my lightweight with just the small exhaust box is a good noise.
-
I put allisport inter cooler in mine, defender de-cat pipe and mid section straight through stainless steel and stainless steel tail pipe with box sounds awesome and with the mods on my girl she flies, outstanding :afro:

Male lion under the bonnet, accelerator cable wrapped round his spuds? :D

I hear the LSE drive off down the road the other day, on it's way to the MOT.
Sounds nice, if a little loud for some people.
-
ITG are good for air filters and they do them for discos not sure what engine you got but they are sure to do one for it. they are the british version of K&N.
other than that you want a V8 with a supercharger out the bonnet with some flared out pipes or flatted down at the ends which makes more of a plap sound (say plap in your head or out loud a few times and you will get what i mean)

Sadly it's the only true way to appreciate the sound of your own motor is to let someone else drive it! But i do agree the 4.2 does have that just right sound with the middle box missing.

So I'm told, mine's 5.0 ;)
The longer stroke engines don't burble quite like the old 3.5s did so mines' nice and smooth.
I fitted a Rmmer's stainless system without Cats to save fuel and do away with the unreliable manifolds more than anything else, the sound is just a bonus :)
-
lol well there wasn't a 5.0 in my budget when it came to re-engine mine but the 4.2 was. Still think it is the best, the longer stroke for torque yet will rev freely and quickly. ;)
-
The 4.2 will take a bit of a skim too, the compression ratio is below 9:1 unlike the 3.9 on which it's based. They share the same dizzy BTW.
did you know the 4.2 (4275cc) has ther "iceberg" crank? nice and strong.

already been done ;) alongside a wee bit of port work and a flywheel skim. just before i brought it the chap had a NOS lucas dizzy on it which i have stowed away as i have the mallory on it. And yes i was told by a mate that they (land rover and JE IIRC) used the iceberg castings as the base for the 4.2 crank.
I still smile uncontrollably when i leave in my wake any chav who thinks he can annoy me by trying to mate with the tow hitch.
-
Yes it was John Eals who developed the 4.2 engine for LR. Annoyingly I had a near new JE 4.6 with ECU in a RRC that was tolen from our unit a couple of years back. Blue would have gone like stink with that in it.
Unless it suffers form a dropped liner, the 4.2 will go on for longer than most V8s and can be economical (all things being relative).
