Yeap I noticed, how about the pictures of the elaborate 6x6 drivetrain, that works without a propshaft!

I'm beginnning to think the magazinbe is writtedn by the same team of jobbing journos' that write what hi-fi, what caravan, what couch, what flyswat in rotation over the 4 week period.

Interesting - I've wanted to get into writing for these magazines for a while, it sounds as though they need the help!

I stopped buying classic Ford mags after one "freelance" rang me and asked for my advice, I then found out that he was writing an article and included all the stuff I told him (and gave me no credit).  I'm not going to buy a magazine I've written am I

Hello.
That was my cherry picker in lro, was a bit gutted when i got the magazine and noticed the mistakes, but in all it wasnt too bad an article, the pictures were good.  I think the problem was the middle axle decided to destoy itself while coming home from a job only a week before the photo shoot so i had to run around and find a middle axle then to find the bearings in the back axle were really bad and the crown wheel was missing teeth so i put a discovery axle in until i got round to doing things properly, and i dont think the main editors were told, but hey its not that difficult to see that in the pictures mr editor.
cant excuse them the sturdy v8 one though.

i thought that was an attempt at irony given the mention of the 300tdi swap in the text. either that or they were being fatuous.

Not a bad idea - anyone else interested? There's a limit to how much content I can generate (and how many photos of the Elan Valley/Nant yr Arian/Strata one site can hold)!

I'm sure I could waste a couple of pages about how I travelled down some motorway to get free parts from manufactures. (But only mention the part and the company in a single short paragraph!)

Thing is, that's normal behaviour in the motoring press. They expect a freebie to review in return for which they'll give the product exposure, a recommendation, and they'll include details of where to buy one from in the piece.

As a result, I often wonder how impartial reviews really are. Are you really going to rubbish something that you've been given on the understanding that you can keep it? I know other hobbies have magazines which never give a bad review to anything, presumably because it would upset their main advertisers. They'll even give a product a great review, then when an upgraded version appears a year or two later they'll say "a huge improvement on the many flaws of the previous one"!

There was a review in a recent Mini magazine of upholstery cleaning products. One of the products was reviewed as 'total rubbish, don't buy it'... which was quite refreshing!
