last night on my way home from a freinds i got pulled over twice on the a 509 by elcid, only for them to say "excuse me sir but is this your landrover as there has been a lot stolen in the area lately " towich i replyed yes its mine then they got back in their car and peed off . now if theyd allready checked if it was stolen why stop me ?? the last one eaven followed me to the start of my road .
yes if they think its suspect pull the [!Expletive Deleted!] over but to follow me home thats just tacking the pee

He knew your address and was making sure you was driving there? Maybe a quick peek in rear as he stopped you? smell your breath? maybe see if your face matched a known person? I'd rather my vehicle stopped and my identity confirmed as owner when driving 'out of hours' as it might not me be, Gwent police used to give out a sticker showing willingness to be pulled for no reason to check identity (not sure it worked though).

Would you notice it stolen if you had gone to bed?? It would be morning when you woke and found it missing then reported it ;)
I drive an old transit and get followed/pulled any time i'm out late..... quick look in the back and they gone. Yes it a bit annoying but I got nothing to hide ;)

A simple check, is there a key in the ignition? If nicked the steering column shroud would probably be off and the ignition switch assembly hammered off.

On balance, I'd rather they were stopping vehicles and then letting you on your way as soon as it's obvious you are the genuine owner...
I suspect that Plod 1 wasn't talking to Plod 2 to confirm that they had already stopped you - given that Ben's 110 went walkabout in Kettering only last week, I suspect that it is more a case that any 4x4 (or LR) is being checked...
Can't really fault them, although I appreciate the inconvenience!

letting him go soon as they see he is dressed like a murder/gunman...that and the ingrained grease under finger nails.

Don't forget that the thieving gits look on here and other forums forums for vehicles to nick and if there is someone bitching about being stopped it might make them think again about operating in that area. I would rather be stopped and have a polite q&a with plod than have an irate q&a with plod about why my Discovery isn't parked where I left it.
Unfortunately the coppers on the street are only carrying out instructions from their bosses. If it is target motorist week then they get it and so on

I think this is a case when we need to be supportive of them. Like others have said they are looking for things like bust locks, broken windows or known pikeys. If they dont do the odd "pull over" then there is no chance to catch them in the act, if someone had thier car returned before they even knwo it was knicked, they would be very pleased no doubt.
Re being pulled twice, thats a pain, but no doubt a sympton of a crackdown on 4x4's being nicked (A good thing) one issue we face as a society is about police recording, people get arsey about details beign logged when they get pulled over and are innoccnt, but then multiple pull overs etc eiter happen or cant be recorded. Same for stop and search for Balck/Asian people, if its not recorded you cant prove you have been repeadedly pulled, but then there are issues about lots of stop/seach history being somehow making an individual "susspicious" (Almost as in "known to the police"). Its a tough one to crack.

Getting picked up by the fuzz is nothing new, when I was younger I drove a mkII Escort and if I was meeting mates in town I'd have to allow 10 minutes for the obligatpory "chat" at the side of the road. It got to the point where if I saw a copper I just pulled over.
One night I managed to get 2 tickets to produce in the space of 1/4 I kid you not. I got stopped just before a roundabout and they went right thtough my car, made me open my luggage and everything I was there more than half an hour. I had just exited that roundabout when I got pulled up again by another copper.

sounds like my youth - stopped and searched all the bleeding time, once got flagged down by a beat copper because (exact words) "You looked like you were about to go fast" :dance: even he had a smile on his face after he said it. I was always polite and let them carry on, giving grief only make things worse. Only once had abusive officer in my face after being pulled because he said I was being a "[ed: naughty]", what actually happened I took a junction and the old viva I was driving felt 'wrong' so I moved steering wheel side to side to see if I had a flat and he must of see that as me messing around - I was 4 up in car so he thought he'd sound off in my face and spit at me in front of friends.

Got stopped once on my way to Uni
"is this your car sir"
"no, it's my dad's"
"OH! and does he know you've got it!"
"he should do, he was follwoing me in the car you cut up to pull in behind me"
He left after that.
My observbation is that a lot of officers these days do not demonstrate the standard of driving they expect in others. I know a lad who is a copper and I know how hard he had to train to get into a panda so what happens to them? some round here don't even observe red lights.

i think the police around here track my movements :lol:
been stopped a few times but the ones i appriciate the most are the constant check ups at my rented workshop
because i quite often work into the night and when i hear a motor i check and its often a police car checking my landy :lol:
must have a file thicker than a real criminal by now but i don't mind as if it is stolen i know i would only have minimum space of time to find it,

I can't remember the last time I saw a bobby round here!! I know they're here and I know that they are doing a good job (One of the lowest crime rates in the country and the highest clearups) but I never see them!
