Title: My LR failed in its primary function...
Post by: john656 on August 31, 2010, 21:27:33
to get me home no matter what.
After playing  for an hour or two up and down hills, parted for home and my last words to my friends were 'im going home now before i break something...' halfway through cheltenham by maplins went to pull away from the lights and bang clang clatter twang.... gearbox output shaft decided to shear off.
Never mind, suppose if your using them right you have to expect something along the line.

throwing a wobbly cuz you didn't buy it a cheap in-car electric gizmo from maplins.

i can't excess facebook links so not see whats there. Did the shaft shear or did the splined teeth go because of excessive wear due to lack of lub of the tranny input gear?

I went out to mine today after a few days, pressed the unlock button and...nothing!

Both batteries flat, I suspect the alternator has gone nuts again and eaten them (I had that problem with identical symptoms last year). As soon as I can get a few volts into the battery I'll take it to the garage and see what they can sort, as if it is the alternator then they should be able to get a replacement under guarantee or sale of goods regs.

Only snag - an Optima Red Top which got down to 4v sucks more juice from a charger than the charger is willing to supply. It keeps ticking in and out!

Can certainly see it through the PTO plate, you can remove the input gear easily enough and inspect the splines of output shaft but that about it as far I know.

Racing....in a diseasal disco...lol.

Mine left an Audi TT standing from traffic lights once. I don't know who was more surprised!

Seems as though my alternator is borked, when I pulled the alternator fuse the drain disappeared. I would just fit a new uprated one but as it's less than a year old I'm taking it back to the garage to see if there's any warranty. They should at least have some comeback on the supplier under sale of goods regs.
