Title: What sort of disco can you get for 2k?
Post by: Saffy on September 03, 2010, 23:06:46
as per title really - what will 2k buy? Mrs looking at some thing fairly reliable for every day use () and home maintainable (guessing 300tdi?) - what models have leather seats?

You should be able to get your hands on a very tidy top of the range 300 Tdi ES model for that money.

You should be able to get a very good disco for that money, but make sure you check the usual rust traps, floor, sills, rear cross member and arches etc. Or try and find something decent for under the 2 k and save some cash for repairs or maintainace.

For this sort of money you are in tdi territory, 3 doors and commercials tend to be a bit cheaper too.

Keep your eyes peeled, there are some bargains about. Not that slow compared to some things :P getting rid of the egr valve and centre section make a noticeable difference.

Keep looking.

I went to Brightwells a couple of months ago and they were all rust heaps with dodgy MOTs on them so I walked away then found a Jap import 300 with 35000KM from its 10 years in Japan and 20000miles since its return to here (combined mileage about 43000 miles in 14 years!!) Its imaculate, no rust anywhere and really clean on Ebay. Had it for

Well we got one and off a top guy (friend of a friend). 150k 1997 300tdi Auto ES (fly by wire), all the leccy toys and leather seats so wifey happy enough. Nothing major to do,small bit of weld patching, general tidying up, replace a couple bit and bobs and loving care so I'm happy enough. Was wary about a)it being an automatic b)EDC fly by wire model ...but hay-ho will give me some something to do if it goes boobs up
Drives really nice and not slow. Best of all it came in at less than half the budget so money there to bring up to spec with a decent level of service.
Cheers all for posting advice on thread  (esp about the ES model - which gave us something to aim for) and those who PM'd details of trucks through for Mrs to consider.
