Had a text from wife at work this morning.
"Some body has nicked 1 of the skips"..
Apparently a large roll on/off type skip full of cardboard has been nicked from the factory yard where she works. They will take anything these days..
This is the third time I,ve heard of skip theft in 3 months around here, 2 roll ons and 1 large normal type skip, which they actually emptied by the side of the road before having it away..
I don,t imagine that chaining them down would be much help as they would nick whatever its chained to as well..
So my question is....
How could you secure a skip on your property? :-k

This happend where I worked they ended up puting them in the workshop overnight and w/ends, and right by the door during the day

What about attaching it to the ground with suitably hefty chains? If you put the ground anchors deep enough they won't be able to shift them without making a lot of noise and effort.
Try a solid steel post with spikes welded through it, this end goes in the hole and is concreted in (with the spikes making it impossible to pull out without taking the concrete plug too). That might also make for a good anti-theft precaution for caravans and trailers if you added a towball to the top, hitched the trailer to it, then fitted a hitchlock.
As with all things you'll never make it completely thief-proof, but making it difficult and time consuming to get at will put them off.
You could also try using the standard locking bollards, arranged in such a way as to make it impossible to get a skip lorry close enough to the skip with the bollards in place.

Tie it to a really nasty Rottie, helps with finding the culprits as the scenes of crime can get a DNA sample of the blood they find

Or from the bits of limbs scattered around the skip

:-k place the skip on top of a landmine

Hook the skip up to the mains power switchboard for the weekend. Hey presto, would you like the pikies well done or crispy?

How about putting skip locks on them.
There are products off the shelf for ro ro,s that fit on the lifting bar and others for standard skips that fit on the lifting hooks ;)
Bear in mind a 40yd skip is worth 2 grand or so, quick blast and paint and bobs your mums brother, no serial no. no number plate nobody looking for it :police:

:-k place the skip on top of a landmine
Landmines are usually design to detonate om compression - would end up spoiling the delivery drivers day.
Could always get it on a rubber base and then add a few volts - using the toerag as an earthing point!

Apparently they have the theft on vid cam but its not much help really, :-. just a plain unmarked white cab truck drove in did the lift and drove off. 8.10 am when most of the workforce was still drinking tea etc.
The last time I heard of a skip going awol was 3 weeks ago at the rear of our houses. The scrotes not only took the skip but emptied the crap out of it in the lane behind the houses
It seems to be a growth industry at minute, they are so brazen about it.
They never seem suspicious do they skip wagons.
