Title: Tyres
Post by: Discotel on September 20, 2010, 17:35:07
Hi peeps, I am after a new set of boots for the disco before I go to wales...I have a set of Grabber AT2's fitted at the moment but was thinking of a set of BFG Muds...I was looking at the 245/75/16 size....How much bigger are these than the 245/70/16's I have fitted at the mo...

I like the 265/75/16's but think I will need to cut the arches...I have a 2" lift, its a brand new medium duty terrafirma kit so decent enough lift.

The following are 'theoretical' dimensions - if you go for remoulds you will have added rubber on there and so the rolling dimensions may be bigger...

Your current 245/70/16's have a rolling diameter of 29.5" whereas the 245/75/16's should be 30.47" giving you nearly half an inch extra under the diff...

I have a 2" lift and am currently running 235/85/16's (which work out at 31.7") but mine are remoulds and mud pattern, so I suspect a little bigger.  I may be forced to carry out a camel cut shortly - other than the odd rub at full articulation, they have been fine.

Hope this helps

Check out the tyre size info at the top of the discovery topics page. I'm hopping to fit 265/75/16 bfg allterains at the weekend so will let you know how it goes.

Fitted the wheels and tyres this weekend, was pleasantly surprised how well they did fit. Had to trim a small amount from the rear quarter and and a camel cut. That was it, they don't foul the radius arms or front arch. I don't hav the original bumper and valence so that might have something to do with it. jacked the disco to get the wheels to tuck up in the arches to check for any more fouling.

Only bad points, it has made it feel a little bit more sluggish and cumbersome than before which I guess is too be expected

I've got insa sarahs MT's on my disco standard size (235/70/15 i think). 2inch lift rest is untouched. Just and i mean just touches on the back when shes fully twisted. Ive never heard it rub or anything like that.
Pics on my facebook if its any use, under discovery.
