wasnt sure wether to put this here or in the green lane section but here goes
Holidays are in scotland this year (july/august). 1 week on a boat on the caladonian canal and a week touring.
Given the rather ambigous nature of scottish rights of way and the like has anybody got any usfull tips, web links or routes?
We are likely to be on our own so no 'surprises' with suggested routes :lol:

Not sure about the mainland Bob, but here on the islands any Peat tracks are open to anyone, tracks to lochs that are not on an estate's land are okay. If you want to drive any estate tracks then best to ask before proceeding as it may effect a local clubs access in the future or the estate may be culling deer and you don't want any stray ammo flying around!! :shock:

A group of us went to Durness, on the North coast, a couple of years ago and before we got there I had a look at the O/S maps of the area, found some tracks and contacted the local police to see if they were on estate land. Then I contacted the estates for permisson to drive them.
Unfortunately it was in the middle of the shooting season and, as this is the main money spinner for the area, we couldn't use the tracks on safety grounds. :(
However, we were able to drive on the beach and dunes at Durness which made up for it in a small way. :wink:

How can you tell if a track is on an estate? are they generaly well sign posted?

what dates are u coming up & ill check out the calender for some green road runs,if you have a look on www.slroc.co.uk have a look at the evnts list if not put a post up in the forum

on the 6th n 7th there is a rtv & driving day weeknd at the site at coulport,as per norm ther will prob be a bbq or bonfire n small drink :lol: on the fri n sat nite & on the sun for the driving day you pay then play

Nope, that's why I ended up calling the local bobby, just to be on the safe side.
As per normal, clear as Mud!! :D
Coulport's a nice area, you wouldn't believe Glasgow is just up the road. :wink:
You could also use the local knowledge to find some other lanes in the area, a few drams of an evening normally gets the info flowing. :wink: :P
