Title: valve err3314 what is it?
Post by: Saffy on September 26, 2010, 17:52:46
on my 300tdi disco auto (ecu version) and my neighbour 300tdi disco manual the is a valve with some air pipe going to it and electrical connection. This valve is located on the passenger side wing in front of the air filter box. Valve carries the part number ERR3314 and quick search online and it appear to be something to do with EGR system.... true? The EGR has been removed from mine and I am fitting a 2nd battery to that area and this valve is in the way. What is the valve for and can I safely ditch it by tucking it away somewhere else.

Yep i think your right, i have the same thing and ive also got rid of the egr valve. Pretty sure it doesnt do anything now. cant be sure but i think it controls the opening and closing of the egr valve

I did some digging in the rave manuals and found that valve is called a 'electro pneumatic modulator' which regulates the EGR value in correspondence to source air speed if the management system tells it to. The 3 hoses fitted to it go to the ERG valve, the air filter box and a t-piece on the brake servo vacuum line, there is an electrical connection to the management module. I think it all can be removed safely as part of decommissioning the EGR valve but with particular attention paid to sealing the brake vacuum line.

Now this is interesting? i have moved the same item out of the way when i fitted a second battery, assuming it was part of the EGR system, and the EGR was removed many moons ago. I didn't realise it was connected to the brake vacume system though, and i have suspected my brake vac pump being a little worse for ware these days, so i wonder if its as simple as a leak through this bit???

worth checking, have attached the relevant source where I got that info from... (its fly by wire version in image but that valve set up is same on neighbours truck so still holds true)

I just unbolted it and tucked it between the airbox and inner wing rather than pulling it off completely. My EGR is still in place with a blanking plate, although I'll probably fit silicone hoses at some point and get rid then.

Trying to think back but IIRC the valve does turn vacuum from the pump on and off, either leave it in place and unplug the electricery or plug the pipe.

Our RRC has ABS and no EGR, I don't need the vac pump and I think because it has nothing to do it's making a funny noise, however I'm prety sure the EGR and servo connection are from the same source.

I will trace the hose right back at the weekend to pump end, and figure a way to seal it there?

my neighbour cooked his 300tdi engine recently and those pipes got melted, seems to have done a fair job of sealing them

Possibly a bit extreme  ;)

TBH though it is thermoplastic pipe IIRC so you could "weld" the end of the pipe to seal it.
