Title: Land Of Hope & Political Correctness
Post by: Bush Tucker Man on April 26, 2005, 11:28:02
Does anyone else bemoan the lack of pride in this country?
Apparantly it's only okay to celebrate England* when some f**baller (or Rugby type) kicks a ball & wins a trophy, at other times we have to practically apologise for being British

On a similar vein there was a pub landlord recently who was refused an extension licence for St Georges Day. The Magistrate ruled that it wasn't a significant event!!
Yet licences were handed out for Chinese New Year. Political Correctness gone mad!!!

This author found himself in that position after witnessing children on a bus.

Sadly publishers regarded him with incredulity when he'd included information about 'the Empire'

A damn good book, I got mine in early December.
Track it down

*With apologies to Scotland, Northern Ireland & Wales

** Please be assured that there is a differance between Patriotism & Nationalism.

I was in work on Saturday, and it seems that my colleagues only realised that it was St George's Day when they found the special St George's Day bikini clad woman poster in the Sun.

I think the English have largely brought this upon themselves through the indifference of the majority.

Yep, you're right.  Why shouldn't we celebrate being ENGLISH? Other members of the British Isles celebrate their saints and stuff.  I know St. George wasn't a real saint but neither was Joan of Arc    Since World War 2, the country's gone to the dogs Sir - we never had it so good

Agree think its a disgrace, we should get a day off to be patriotic.

Feel that the country has gone too much the other way, scared of treading on too many toes - BUT WHAT ABOUT US?

BE PROUD TO BE ENGLISH  :D

Example quote from the 'Pocket Book'

"Born and eduated in this country, I glory in the name of Briton'

King George III
