Does anyone know anything about these tyres http://www.transglobaltyres.com/tyres/4x4/venezuela.htm ?
I've been offered 5 part worn, on steel wheels for £300 (not sure if inc VAT :oops: ) and they reckon that they are only about 5% worn.
Are these viable for proper road use as well?
Any views?

sounds alot of money. what size are you looking at, as hard to beat nene valley on price. got my new tyres and rims for less then what most people wanted for just the tyres

£60 per wheel and tyre, balanced and ready to fit - is that expensive :-s

at the low end of new tyres, sizes are bit odd and not heard of them b4, depends on condition of rims, and 5% tyre wear can be alot if all off-road, not just wear but damage, give nene valley a ring you might be suprised that it's not much more for new branded tyres. www.4x4tyres.co.uk

Well, actually, the tyres are on a project 90 that AJS are building :) I can't imagine that they've seen too much off-road action.
I have called Nene Valley and am waiting for a call back.

Bearing in mind they are remoulds and therefore in competition with Colway and the like - have a look at

Based on that it looks like 50 quid a tyre + tenner a rim.
What rim's are they? If the condition is ok and the tyre's haven't been abused too much I'd say its a pretty reasonable price. AJS are pretty reasonable people from what I have heard of them too.

The wheels are Grey Modulars, if I remember correctly.
My current mood is to stick with my Colway ATs for a bit longer and carry on looking at the options ... but that may change within the hour :wink: :lol:

To be honest, I would not want to be doing any kind of serious mileage on those other than in the mud :D
Are you thinking second set for swapping over at play time or a permanent set for everything else?
I've gone BFG AT (245/75) now to get a little extra height without going to the extreme of 2" lift (although she has +1" springs) and I got them as a bargain off ebay :wink:

Went to have a look at them and I decided they were not really suitable. They appear to be a bit beyond MT and not ideal for a one tyre car!

:D Hi Gords, the tyres above are an aggresive mud-terrain as i had a set of these but from Bronco they were called Diamond Backs the size i had were 215/75/15 and were fitted on my old Suzuki SJ. They were great in the mud nothing stopped it but on the road the tyre noise was very noticeable and tyre ware was quite a worry, lost about 10mm in 6 months with everyday use. The price you mention for second hand is not bad with rims included, but not recommended for everyday use esspecially in the wet :shock:

Thanks Mike - I went off the idea pretty musc as soon as I saw them. Like you say, I should think they'd wear down very quickly and tarmac in the rain... :shock:
Wallet well and truly secured and thinking cap back on :wink: From chatting with them, I was swung towards BFG! That most definitely will have to wait a while :shock:

:D Ive got Grizzly claws on the Rangie, but i only travel a couple miles to work and sometimes use my pushbike. But if i had to do more mileage i would change them to BFGs they seem to ware well as a mate of ours has them on his Disco ( BFG MTs ). And he swears by them, good on road and offroad, still get tyre noise though but nothing to bad. BFG AT would be a good comprimise. :D

Yes, many people seem to swear by BFG and I've heard stories of them doing 40K+ miles.
I've already got Colway ATs - I know, not necessarily the same :wink: - but if I change, it will be to MTs.
It's back to cheap/Retread against expensive/new :roll: ... or ebay :wink: :lol:

:D A cheapish way of doing it. Is have two sets, one set with cheap road tyres on ( same size as your MTs ), and the other set with MT retreads for when offroading... my mate DPG recently went down this route and when hes got his road tyres on his Disco drives a lot better and comfier. :D

The trouble is I don't really have space to store a second set of tyres :( Then there's the hassle of changing your tyres before/after events.
I still favour "standard" MTs such as BFG. The annoying thing is, the ATs that I have at the moment are mostly fine but once they clog up that's it - no grip :roll:
I might have to run on these Colways until they wear out, unfortunately ... unless anyone wants to buy them from me :wink:
