Title: lr 300tdi engine block, what are these holes for?

putting this here as Q to generic to choose between  disco or defender sections.

as per title... what are these 4 hole and mating faces for (looks line it might be 5 holes in photo, only noticed four myself)?

think they are m10 threads.

rofl, I  did wonder what the link was in reference too. If you can come up with the proper link fid77 be interested to see what's said. I always thought the 300tdi was a new engine from scratch and didn't use earlier block which I presume would be the 200tdi.

Best suggestion so far is that's for a cup holder for when inevitable repairs are carried out on the engine.
