Washing the carpets out of the land rover
carpets :? :? whats those? never had any carpets in any of my landys
-
"Well the kitchen sink just is'nt big enough dear"

Nice one using your initiative that what land rover owners do best, well some of them. Ps thank's for the ride in your lovely motor at husbands bosworth. Nice to see you are keeping those nice black carpet's clean.

I spent most of today cleaning the inside of it, and I am now convinced I need another project, I bought the 110 to kill 2 bird with one stone. i.e. decent work load lugger, and weekend off roader. It is perfect for both of those. However always seem to spend most of sunday night washing it, and I obviously need to spend more time on the inside if today is anything to go by.
I'm thinking about maybe at 90 pick up, or hard top, TDi so that I can literally just hose it out, and dry it. Then I can use the 110 for work, and light play\green laning. And the 90 for serious play, and if it gets the odd scratch then it's not the end of the world. No how do I fund this great new idea!!
-
go on,build that 90 tdi racer we were tlkin bout earler   or go 1 better n get a bowler

So you got the meaning of serious play then :D
Don't think I could run to a bowler, but I figure I could start with a 90 TDi for not too much, then gradually edge towards a racer ready for next season.
-
i play just as hard at fundays as i do competetive events,i know a man who can make cheap frames ie bowler lookalike for not to much ££
im passin the idea about of turning the tdi 90 im building into a racer but i dunno for now as am happy wi the v8

:D Hi Drum. Although your 110 is GOREGEOUS. The more adventurous your getting will soon result in your pride and joy getting a ding or two, so it would make sence in getting another 4x4 ( 90 Tdi etc ) for serious offroading. I can just imagine those tyres on a 90 =P~ . I would definatley save the 110 for gentle stuff or shows etc.
Will macca have to watch his back now at Whitworth Quarry ( Red Hybrid ).
-
Thing is I got the 110 so that I didn't need 2 vehicles. Well that lasted 6 Months, and now I'm thinking about getting another :D Won't be long before I'm back on form, and have half a dozen on the road again
Will macca have to watch his back now at Whitworth Quarry ( Red Hybrid ).
I seem to remember having to pull him out the boggy bits last time :D

But then I have to keep it presentable for work and that includes getting the mud out of the inside as well as off the outside
And I can't really race it, well actually............. :?: :?:

So we all agree I'm not going to race a 54 plate 110 defender XS :D
-
Good one to try is putting your nylon recovery rope in the washing machine on a cold wash.
Comes out and treat :D
Seems to have some alergic reaction with the girlfriend though.....
....she goes very red, shouts alot and steam comes from her ears
She also never seems that impressed how well the rope washes?!?!?!?!
-
did that with a kerr rope, just got to remember & remove the shackles first

Our bathroom looked like a little piece of Whaddon after we'd bathed the dogs the other week.

For that money it is very tempting. I'd prefer Road Legal, and Diesel though. I've got it on my watch list. I've a day or two to think about it, but if it doesn't go much higher, for a couple of grand I could easily do the lights my self, fit a tdi, and get it resprayed.

I know of a very nice bobtail rangie for sale.

Sorry Paul, back to can't be hosed out.

also to heavy for comping & missing a roll cage

This discussion of possible new land rovers has got me thinking. My main Criteria are it must be, Road Legal, Easily Maintainable\Fixable, Suitable for Racing\Off Road Play.
I recon a 90 Pickup\Hard Top is a fairly good starting point for that.
Few Obvious Additions for racing Roll Cage, Harnesses, Fire Extinguisher, Extra Rear Lights, Power Cut Off, I'm bound to have missed something.
Now the complicated bit. As An Off-Roader, I would go 2" Lift, Big Wheels, Snorkel, etc. etc. As finance allowed. However How much of this is going to hinder Racing?? Changing Wheels for different events isn't too bad, but much more and you get a real chore which knowing me will only happen 2 or 3 times.
-
First off, get as much weight out of it as you can... simple things like sound deadening can weigh a surprising amount.
Big wheels will provide greater under-axle clearance, but they will reduce your effective acceleration (unless you change the drivetrain) and will increase the unspring weight of the vehicle... this isn't what you want on a race vehicle.
You want to keep the induction path as short as possible, so if you are using a snorkel, which many people believe is a good thing just to keep the crud out of the filter, the routing of it is important. Also, because the engine will be revving high, you need to make it as unrestrictive as possible... big tubes are good.
As for a lift... I would say that you don't really want to go high... it raises the C of G of the vehicle and that will decrease stability. *Good* quality and / or multiple dampers are vital because they get plenty of abuse.
Moreso than ever, don't try and do everything at once on it... you will learn what works and what doesn't for your vehicle and modify it to suit.

Pardon, Can you repeat that I can't hear you? :D

Changing Wheels for different Days I can live with.

I can see twin snorkels here :D

This is the biggy so far then, changing springs and shockers etc, for different days, would be a complete pain in the bum. :(

By the sound of it, what works when racing is going to be very different from what I need for crossing your average Mud Pit. :(

from my own experiance(stop sniggering at the back)
90/88 coiler is THE way to go,if its 90 go soft top or truck cab,dnt bother with a hardtop,if its 88 go s1 look alike,
ill run through a 90 set up for u since thats what i have-wheels n tyres go small =fast acceleration,i dunno what the coures down ur way are like but up here point n squirt rules, suspension lift :? the more space between bumpstop n axles = go faster as more travel is available ,if its a diesel a snorkel may be a good idea but make it as big diam as pos,
suspension,u can suck it n see or try n work out roughly what u need n try it,go for double dampers all round preferably gas 1's,i run twin ranchos on the front n single procomps on the rear (would fit twin but dnt need them yet)also if you have twin dampers it allows u to run softer springs so when u come in to land its more progresive rather than being hard with stiff springs n stiff single damper,at the mo i run bout 5 inchs between axle n bumpstop with 150lb ft springs all round, still bit soft but will do for now as i do trials aswell on the same set up,anyway, thats enough for now, need to go n have a think bout what else ull need

In many respects, yes. You can put a compromise setup together of course, but it will never be as good as a dedicated system.. If I tried to race my 90 as it is now, it would be a disaster... but it's not too bad in a challenge environment.
-
just to pass scruitineering up here(arc rules) u will need a afff fire extinguiser, vehicle master switch will external pull, full arc spec cage, secure seats & preferably full harnesses, extra throttle return spring fitted so to shut the throtlle if the normal 1 breaks(seen it happen),ok/sos board, high level rear fogs,2x door Nos(supplied by club) type a or afr helemt (get it stickered by the scrutineer) & a min of a clubmans non race off road comp license
-
in regards to the suspension i will be runnin the same set up for prob the rest o the year as its a ttl pain to change as i need it stiff for comps n soft for trials,if at a comp its too soft slow down n go for a finish, its better than goin mad or changin the set up to suit, best way is find a mid way n go from there

You really are determinied aren't you :D
I'd prefer to cut my teeth on somthing a little more standard, but it is very tempting, I'd be interested to see how much it goes for.
-
well ive been asked to find a comp truck for my boss's mate n id like to help you out,i kno what it went for the last time it was on,it made me take a shart intake o breath
bout 11K

I'll stick to the 90 plan then :D
