Title: Found a V8 for my 90
Post by: MuckingFuddy on May 05, 2005, 10:30:17
Hi, I have found a V8 for my 90 diesel. Its coming from a RR Classic 3.5 V8 (4 speed LT?? 1978). We are doing a swap, he wants economy I want POWER  . Has anyone done this conversion before? if so what are the major things to worrie about? We will be swapping the engine & gearboxes.

It will be an LT95.

You might need to get different propshafts suit the length, as the transfer box outputs will be in a different place to your current set up.

The tunnel cover may need some modifications, but these will likely be minor...  don't forget the get the vacuum switch from the donor vehicle as this is needed to operate the centre diff and can be expensive to find.

The 4 speed box will probably be a bit noisier than your current 5 speed, but they are *very* tough.

Get as much of the exhaust system as you can from the RR... you will need the downpipes and y-pipe as a minimum, the rest you can make up from bits of the existing system and the RR system.

Best of luck :-)

thats pretty much the same set up as whats in my 90,although it came with the lt95 as standard when it rolled out the factory as a 110 v8,the gearbox is really tuff although the centre diff can be a bit weak(on my 2nd now),
in regards to the switch mines has just lunched itself so have now jury rigged it with a bit brake pipe,if your good at making thinngs its not hard to convert it to lever shift for the diff lock
