Title: Haven't Seen One Of These For Ages. Part 3
Post by: Bush Tucker Man on May 23, 2005, 11:08:54
I was browsing a copy of Classic & Vintage Commercial (http://www.kelsey.co.uk/magazines/commercial/) from a couple of months ago & in it was pictured a truck that used to be an everyday sighting for me, as they were used when houses were built on a very large market gardening farm near where I used to live.
As I read, it occurred to me that I haven't seen one for (probably) well over 25years
Even searching for an appropriately aged picture took some doing.

Has anyone seen one about recently?
If they have can I have a piccy please? :D

It reminds me a bit of the Mercedes 1924 and 1928s you see everywhere in the Middle East - equally rugged looking but a bit more curvy.

Why can't I find out much about these trucks on the Internet, given they are absolutely everywhere?

By the way Richard, you should get chatting to Nick Kay, the guy who sold me my 101.  He's into MAN 8x8s and has three ex-Nato cruise missile launchers.

Oh for a bigger garden, & an understanding wife :D

I've seen a MAN 8x8 at a show, they're nice.

Almost as nice as the Zil 135 (http://fim.ondragonswing.com/archives/006650.html)

True, you don't see the Mercedes anywhere either

Now that's just greedy.

Tell him to give one to me ;-)  I've got enough space to use one !

Well, only one of them is working, so if you want an 8x8 doorstop, he may be your man...

By the way, his wrecker (picture above) apparently has a recovery capability of 80 tonnes, so it should be useful if you get the trailer stuck!
