Title: New MOT system
Post by: MTyrrell on May 25, 2005, 22:39:18
Has anybody had one of these new MOT certificates, all computerized and everything?
The 110 had its test yesterday, and failed  , the only problem is the wording is pre-set for the fault and is a bit vague at times.

what does it say on your failure, it is not for the mot tester to identify the actual cause of the fault, just the fault itself, for example i you had a lot of play in the wheel it could be wheel bearing, swivel bearing, ball joint ect. depending on vehicle.
if he specified a cause of the fault and was wrong and it didn't cure the fault then the problems start.
this probably doesn't help but that could be why it is a bit vague!

i find alway best to be there and watch MOT test so you can see where the play is etc :) plus with the series used to get lots of phone calls .... how you start it, wheres the lights etc  :? so i always made sure i was there.

Had mine MOT'd last week.

Im going to have to call the friendly mechanic up so he can explain exactly what the problems are !

They are vague,,,,,,, :?   and i dont want to spend bank holiday correcting the wrong things.

I agree,,, the best thing to do is try and be there when they MOT it. I deffinatley will be when it goes for it's re-test.

Welcome to the future is all i can say  :(

Mine are still done the old way, no sign of upgrade yet but it has to some sometime. If you ask the tester to elaborate on the faults I'm sure they can show you

Even more scary, if you drive a, for example- 1976 range rover, and fit a 1994 v8 engine, you will have to have cats fitted, because it will go on the engine age, not vehicle. I believe its 1992 onwards that must have cats?,
hopefully somebody can clarify this.  ? :?

The other problem with the new system is you have to pay for the re-test if it does fail

Where i work we are still waiting for out mot computer to be up and running the mot testers dont seem too enthralled as appears to be more complicated than it really needs to be.
