I had a safety re-call letter from LR the other day, something to do about crack in the fuel tanks on the D1.
basically a free new fuel tank fitted.
Is this just another cunning ploy to get you in, do a service and rip off more of you hard earned cash, or am I being a cynic.

Nope, it's safety critical therefore the OEM HAS to do something about it. The problem was identified in North Amercia where the OEMs live in fear of the TREAD Act (which all came about following several highly publicesed fatalities following OEMs not mentioning safety critical vehicle issues).
If they're recalling all the North Amercian cars they really have do the rest of the world as well, otherwise the potential for fines is incredible (IIRC, 120M USD for a first offence ).
Similar issues around the world have almost sunk respected manufacturers (who I won't name for good reason.....).
We now have to find a Mian dealer to take the Disco into - our local one won't take because it's gassed. Which is odd because, when we had to pay for work they were more than willing...........
cheers

I have contacted LR Customer Service and await their response on the removal, and susbsequent charging, of non-warranty equipment fitted outside of warranty ;-)

Does anybody know which Discovery's are being recalled?
I don't think I need a new tank, but am always willing to have anything for free from LR.

Just some V8's.
Kenny, dont let the dealers touch anything else.
They'll only [!Expletive Deleted!] it up.

I saw the recall letter yesterday when i was in my local specialist.
Its only petrol models, series one up to 1998 and yes if this is your car they will replace the fuel tank FOC.

Thanks Colin & Ben,
Should have said that mine is a Diesel in the first post, so it doesn't affect me.
On one hand no free tank, on the other no hassle of having to take it in.
