Title: bit of a gearbox worry
Post by: suggs on June 04, 2005, 16:13:11
Hi all we have just bought a 01 TD5, we have noticed that when changing from 2nd to 3rd theres sometimes a slight crunch, it happens about 3 in 10 gear changes its not a massive crunch but it is quite noticable you can feel it more than hear it, it only happens in 3 rd gear on up shifts  even with the clutch pedal to the floor, im wondering if theres a syncro problem, its done 66000 miles, we bought it from a reputable dealer and have a warrenty, trouble is as its only a slight problem at the moment and intermittent theres nothing realy to show them your views please.

cheers
H

My 300Tdi does exactly the same thing H from 2nd to 3rd.  No noise but you can feel it catch a little.  Mine doesn't do it when I get the revs just right or if I wait for 1 second in neutral in between. Since my gearbox has done close to 200k I assume it is a worn synchro.  No help sorry, but thought you might like company in your misery

My TD5 does it from first to second.  It's a bit annoying but it's still around many gearbox oilchanges later.  It did it from when I first had it at 36,000 miles.  I think it's standard R380 behaviour.

If it's under warranty I'd tell them about it, then at least you have it on record if the probllem gets worse.

ive done a gear oil change, and had it checked over by my local landie garage, ive been dealing with them for years they said its normal, its very slight and if you change gear smoothly it dosent do it, i also changed the spigot that the gearstick ball sits in.

Cheers
