One for Andy :wink:
Sadly one of the oldest attractions in the Bradford area is under threat
'Yorkshire Post Magazine' (http://www.yorkshiretoday.co.uk/ViewArticle2.aspx?SectionID=1472&ArticleID=1058064)
Not a great day for the city, as it was a haven of (almost) Victorian tranqulity at times, just good old-fashioned fairground rides. The tram itself was practically unique
Tramway web-site (http://www.glentramway.co.uk/)
It's also practically 'next-door' to Saltaire (http://www.saltaire.yorks.com/), a World Heritage Site (http://whc.unesco.org/en/statesparties/gb), the only one in Yorkshire.

:shock: Blimey BTM that tramway website brings back memories :shock: Used to go there as a kid with Mum and Dad when we lived at Idle near Thackley in the early 70's :shock:
-
It's a couple of years since I've been up there, might have a trip up on my next weekend off & give my support.
Thackley?, Idle?, know both places.
Sorry, factual error :oops: :oops: :oops: ;
I forgot Fountains Abbey (http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/372) is also a (fantastically brilliant) World Heritage Site in Yorkshire.
However could I have forgotten it?

:cry: It is attractions like these that enrich our lives. Reading the text from the link and seeing 5,000 pounds insurance is just typical of the way things are these days with joe public claiming at the slightest thing.
If it was just a matter of bums on seats then I would put it on my must visit list. It is now on the must visit list and will combine it with trips to Haworth for Bronte (missus) & K&WV lt railway (me) this summer.
Just hope the lottery will come good & help it out with a grant.
This is a treasure which must not be allowed to be lost forever.

Living in Leeds it was a place my Dad took me to lots whwn I was younger and I too was very sad to read it's fate on saturday.

Living in Leeds
Hurrahh! More Yorkshire folk :lol:
And Saltaire is a wonderful place as well, to the west of Saltaire in a place known as Gilstead (& hidden in the trees &undergrowth) is the ruined mansion of the son of Titus Salt.
Apparantly, if you know exactly where to look, walls & floors can be found still bearing paint & mosaics (or could be about 10-12years ago)
Got to agree with 'Lowey', it's the little things that make it all worthwhile.
For example;
1. Shipley Glen tramway
2. Saltburn funicular railway
3. Scarborough naval battles in Peasholm Park (not keen on the town itself though)

K&WV Railway is lovely. We tend to sit in the bar in the buffet car and ride up and down all day!
