Post by: vtrdaz on June 22, 2005, 19:08:37
does anybody know where i can get the service list for this service.
just had ours done at vast expense but i was sure that the intercooler should be flushed on this service but it appears that they haven't done it.
Any info would be welcome

cheers - looks like it should have been done then but it doesn't look like anything has been disturbed - i was led to beleive that the rad had to come out with the intercooler - in which case the A bar would have to have come off and that certainly hasn't happened- looks like they may be trying to pull a fast one.
Anyone any ideas on this?

if its anything like the td5 discos u can get to most o the mountings from the engine side, fwiw the intercooler doesnt normally need to be washed out as at 48k its just gettin run in,had a disco 300 tdi in last week that was just coming to 150k & needed to be washed out due to the egr throwin all sorts o crap through the system which goes like tar, imho its landrovers way of makin some ££ out the punter,

exactly - just had a look on rave and the rad has to come out - yet they haven't charged for any new coolant or intercooler flush , but on their service schedule this shoul all have been doen - unless the specs changed , but why in that case are they still charging for it?

btw how much did they charge for the intercooler flush?
im guessin theres not a local independant specialist near u since uve taken it to the local dealer, the local dealer up here has been makin so many mistakes etc that we have taken a fair chunk of there business away from them cos we  are lower priced & have nearly all the stuff in stock, unlike some havin to wait 2 days for wheel bearins at a main dealer tut tut

Just to get this right... they have charged you for the labour to do it, but not for coolant / flush ?

In which case I would query it with them....  assuming they haven't done it of course ;-)

thats right  , charged for labour , but no charge for the flush or new coolant - looks a bit suspect to me as nothing round that area looks like it's been touched

You can also take the intercooler out of the front...

You need to remove the plastic grill, then the grill surround, the bonnet lock and stays, loosen the bonnet support stay, loosen the intercooler pipes and out it comes (probably a few other fittings to loosen which I've forgotten)...

Doesn't take very long, probably quicker than removing the the rad complete... though it is a bit of a fiddle, and you may need to lift the rad slightly.

Success!!    on further inspection today , it appeared that they had :
1 Renewed the diff fluids without removing the drain plugs
2 Renewed the gear and transfer box fluids without removing the drain or filling plugs.
3 removed and flushed the intercooler telepathically so removing the need to remove it from the vehicle and do it manually.
4.Changed the centrifugal filter without removing the lid.
The service manager was WELL embarassed - turns out the technician/monkey had only done a 12,000 mile service - and charged us for a 48,000 - only a small difference of £350
Technician chap is in for a roasting and we get :
A free tank of juice
All four wheels balanced ( as there also seems to have manifested a wheel wobble since the service) and maybe a bit more once the big chief returns from holiday ,
and the missed bits done - but i'm hoping to get them to do the full service again as i'm still not convinced that the rest has been done.
So hopefully alls well.
But on a final note - how many people has this happened to without them knowing?my missus who picked the truck up certainly wouldn't have known.

Hrmm... dealers...

Some of them don't even follow the Land Rover approved workshop manuals... then wonder why things break.... and then they try and say it's 'YOUR' fault....
