Title: Trial Erection
Post by: Bush Tucker Man on June 28, 2005, 22:12:06
As it was a surprisingly quiet, the department had a morning of checking through our 'MAJAX' (major Accident/Incident) equipment.
During the proceedings, we took the opportunity to inflate (for the first time) our decontamination shower tent.

Once the contents were checked off against the lists it was blown up. In theory a compressor should be used by the Fire Brigade, but inthe type of incident where we'd need it, the crews would be 'on-scene'

So, a large cylinder of Medical Air was used. The damn thing is about 9' square & 7' high.
It took around a minute to inflate it to the pressure relief valve activating.

Sadly we couldn't find one of the nice younger Nurses to try the showers :cry:  :cry:  :cry:

We can't even use it 'in anger'
1. No adaptor to connect the showers to the drench-tap (new tap fitted in afternoon)
2. The sump pump is a 110v (& we haven't got a transformer, borrowed one from Estates for the morning.
3. No power supply within easy reach :roll:

What happens is;
1. 'Dirty'* patient arrives
2. 'Dirty' patient is taken into tent, undressed (clothes bagged) & washed thoroughly)
3. Patient enters 'clean enviroment & is given disposable clothing, then triaged & treated.

* 'Dirty' means contaminated, probably chemical.
Fire Brigade willl then pump out the sump in the tent into containers for analysis/safe disposal

Still, on the bright side, no-one decided to try the decontamination suits out. They're like giant Tele-Tubbies (http://www.respirex.co.uk/products_detail.asp?id=27&catID=8)

It would be ideal for Billing, just so long as it doesn't suffer a 'Glastonbury' :D

Supposed to be getting a bigger one, probably an Aire-Shelta (http://www.airegroup.com/v2/product_cat_test.asp?prodcat=Aireshelta&showproducts=true)

As I said it only took a minute to 'get it up'

I did offer to try & get a Helium bottle to fill it with, would have been fun, or some Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas)

Well spotted :lol:

Don't let anyone say the Welsh aren't observant :wink:

I'm seriously considering going for the HGV tests & escaping the NHS, too political now with all the targets.
Health shouldn't be treated as a business

There is always a need for class 1 drivers though, so you would not be short of work. :wink:

All the adverts for agencies up here seem to say;
 '2 Years Experience Neccessary'
But I've since been told that they're all so desperate that they'll waive that ruling instantly.

Its true Richard.
I'm a HGV driver and there's a massive shortage of drivers around. People wont mind a lack of expierience as long as you seem to be compitent.
Good luck!
