I've been having some of the common vibration prolems on the Disco and I knew I had a CV joint on it's way out from the noise it was making when I was at Langdale Quest last month. So, I ordered up 2 new CV joints (to get both sides done) and thought that this could be the problem with the vibrations. [-o<
WRONG!
When I took it all apart, the CV wasn't the best but in one piece, however I found the remains of a needle roller bearing in the bottom of the swivel housing! :-k
It turns out that there is a needle roller bearing on the rear of the stub axle, with a seal behind it. This had collapsed and was causing the CV joint to wander around the stub axle, hopefully, causing the vibrations I've been getting.
So the Disco is now in bits while I wait for new bearings and seals to arrive, at least I could take my time and replace the CV joint and wheel bearings!
So, if your looking for the cause of a vibration in the front end on your 300 Series Disco, bear this one in mind, along with all the other things that can cause it! :D
