My Beloved Van let me down today....
« on: July 12, 2005, 21:41:13 »
 I fell out with my van today, big time...

I had a delivery to Leeds this afternoon ( town center ). Left Manchester traffic fine for once on M62, windows down cold blower on full life was good....

  Got into Town center pulled up outside my first customer, did drop, got back in van.... would she start    No decided to have a diky fit, temp gauge showing that it was overheating and the electrics would not let the enginge start.  :?  Funny i had only checked the oil water in the morning like i always do  :? .
So i sat there for 15 mins till she cooled down enough for the electric brain box to let me fire her up. Well she started but not long up the road and the temp gauge whent through the roof   Stopped parked up for 15 mins again checked water level oil everything was fine even the pipes werent that hot includeing the intercooleer pipes  :? .
Now the firm i work for are penny pinching missers and dont have a recovery policey with any one, so if you break down its up to you to sort it and get back home   .
The only thing i could do was have the heater matrix on full heat and the blowers on full blast ( IT WAS LIKE BEING IN A FURNACE ) Temp gauge steaded at 80 degrees and so i continued with the last deliverys which was at the Leeds Football Ground ( we do all there print work ie posters flyers membership app forms etc etc.. ).
After this i finely headed home along the M62 temp gauge still ok but my god i was melting, the water was just pouring from me, it was 80 degrees outside but 100 inside   .
I gave my van a good telling off when i got back....
It must have been a sticking thermostat, as the vans fine before i went home.
I am now a stone lighter.....
If in first you dont suceed, try second....
If it aint broke, your not trying ard enough....

I remember years ago when I was at college and working in the holidays, I was asked to deliver a Van to a new guy that was starting with the company the next day. THe last words from the MD were watch the brakes, they are not very good.

Any way I proceeded with caution and a full tank of fuel. - He wasn't joking about the brakes they were non existent.  - I was thundering down the outside lane on the M5 heading for the M6 when it started to cough an splutter, I manged to get it to the hard shoulder and started to investigate - not only did the brakes not work neither did the fuel guage, I had been running on fumes.

I had to sit and wait on the hard shoulder for someone to come with a can of petrol so I could carry on and make the delivery.

I eventually got to where I was going and told the guy he would have to take me back to the office so I could get home. Any way the conversation went along the lines of this bloke he was going to work for, saying he had the reputation of a right B******d and a slave driver - after 30 mins of conversation I told him he was talking about my dad

He didn't know where to put himself. !!

S'funny. I was in Manchester today.

Took SWMBO (& 'small-child') to Finningley airport this morning :D  :D  :D  :D
We went there in the Discovery, as she offered to fill it to the brim     (think she regretted it, as it was on a quarter)

Home & a car-swap.

Then bro-in-law, wife (& their) 'small-child' to Manchester airport straight afterwards.

Nice run, apart from the bit from their house through Barnsley.
Once we reached Penistone, it was a very swift   run over the Pennines (A628 -Woodhead Pass) where possible & safe, of course.

Got stuck in the wrong lane coming home. Instead of circumnavigating the 'ring-road' anti-clockwise (& back to the M62), I got led towards the M6 & had to come all the way round :x  (not too sure of myself around that area)

Beautiful day up on 'the tops' over Saddleworth, considered detouring through Ripponden (off at jct 22)
See here for picture links

But, no straight home to my 2 Pooches & ..............
