Oil Pressure Warning Light...
«

Hi all, wonder if anyone could help me... Ive been having some problems with the switch for my oil pressure light. At first the light started coming on at idle but only when the engine was warm, and the odd time when driving, so replacing the switch being the easy option I did just that. All was fine until about 2 weeks later the oil light stopped coming on when putting the ignition on, so thought this could be a faulty switch so got it replaced with a new one... then 2 days later the next switch started to do the same thing, but sometimes would flicker on and stay on, or come on after the ignition has been on for a while. I thought this could be wiring but ive had a good look at the connections to the switch and all seems to be fine. If any one has any ideas or even the same problem, then it would be much appreciated for some info into this problem as its starting to get a bit annoying!!
Thanks in advance,
Darren

yup, at the first sign of the problem with the first switch oil was replaced and filter was too, and did nothing for it, until i replaced the switch... replacing the switch works fine, but dont really want to be doing this every 3 days! could get a bit annoying, let alone expensive! Also dont think it could be pump as the engine is only 57k miles old...
thanks for the advice, but it is proving to be on of those things that never will work again!

still got a problem here, and im thinking its nothing to do with pressure and is more along the lines of electrical faults. So im gonna look for a pressure gauge... only thing is never installed one before so not sure about them. How easy is it to fit, and im guessing it goes where the oil light switch is, so what kind of adapter is needed, are all gauges supplied with a universal one? etc etc... as you can see aint really got a clue with it, so any help with installing one will be greatly appreciated! Cheers!!

I've just seen the original post. It could be the oil pressure switch wire is chaffing somewhere and it's grounding it.
Fitting an oil pressure should just be a case of taking out the switch and replacing it with the guage adapter. Then put the switch back in and then pipe up the guage inside the motor.

Get a TIMS oil pressure guage.
Cost you about £30 and its a doddle to fit! Screws straight inot a defender dash then the copper pipe runs down to the oil switch. Take the switch out and screw in the copper adaptor then the pipe. Will take you MAX 10 mins and give you a proper oil pressure reading!
Ive got one, never going back ever! Ypu can get them on ebay or from vehicle wiring products or alot of good car auto part places

Looked on ebay, loads there juts make sure it comes with the copper pipe.
Heres the link to VWP
http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.co.uk/VWPweb2000/gauges/gauges.html
and then its the oil pressure gauge. I had it on my V8 and now its on my 300tdi so its very universal and the best bit is there are no electrics except for illimainating the gauge!!! Thats what I like! :D
