FUEL PRICES
« on: September 07, 2005, 11:21:59 »
Just refilled my fuel tank for the first time in two weeks, and was shocked to see the fuel price for diesel had jumped from 91.9p to 98.9p a litre!
Now there on about fuel blockages next wednesday, some fuel stations are already planning for restrictions on who can by fuel and how much.

Is it just for Wednesday, or does it start on Wednesday.

i.e. do I need to go and panic buy fuel or simply make sure I don't run out on Wednesday.

LPG started with a low tax as an incentive for people to use it, this tax was frozen for '?' number of years, but this 'freeze' will run out soon, and then there will be a sudden price jump.

Noticed over the last few days that supermarket forecourts are a lot busier and that people seem to be topping up their tanks with £5 - £10 and not going for the big fill up

That's what they did with diesel to a certain extent.  Now it's more expensive the petrol

I think that with gas prices they have to give 2-3 yrs notice of duty price increases.

if they havent given this notice then the duty levels remain at the current level for 2-3 yrs.

...i could be wrong of course.

on what evidence is that comment based-check www.boostlpg.co.uk
old brownie has agreed to give 3yrs notice of duty rise
plus he'd have egg on face as everyone cries about pollution and lpg is super clean and a waste product which otherwise would be dumped causing more pollution
I've ha d a gas truck for 18 months now and have heard these comments fom the day I got it-still paying 36/ltr now.

I wouldn't be too bitter if that's the case! :D  :D

The fact is that there is a freeze on the duty on LPG for three years.  The government have tried to encourage it's use as a vehicle fuel because of it's green ceredentials but also because it's a fuel we produce ourselves and have huge stockpiles of.  There is no reason for the government to incease duty because there still isn't enough users.  The last thing they will do is put off people converting to the fuel by dramatically increasing the price.  When (if) LPG becomes as popular as 'traditional' fuels, then I'll start to worry.

At the rate of incrase on diesle prices I think I might have to splash out on an lpg conversion, the rate they keep taxing us on fuel it will pay for its self in two weeks
hopefully a good long blockade should bring prices down well maybe :)

I beleve last time round the tanker drivers went on strike in support of the protester's & that stoped the flow of fuel.
I beleve the govenment's responce was to make it illegal for the tanker driver's to go on strike    problem solved after all we can't have effective protest's can we . Not british is it .

Well, I can't speak for anyone else, but the last fuel protests were a royal pain in the backside for me...

The local ambulances and fire services went onto emergencies only because of the potential for fuel shortages and everyone round here was virtually under house arrest because our nearest fuel station is abuot 10 miles away....

And after all that... it proved and achieved absolutely nothing.

The fuel prices have gone up so rapidly just recently because the barrel prices have soared...  how is messing up the country in the name of "fair pricing" going to help ?  You think OPEC give a damn about whether we blockage a fuel depot on Merseyside ?

Yes.. and for better or worse, that money goes into the exchequer and pays for other things in the country...  it's not perfect by any means.. but the fact remains that if you suddenly loose all that income, you have to find it elsewhere or make a lot of expenditure cuts.... and they will do either, or both.

The only solution is to start again from scratch, but you can't do that in the real world.

I remember the last protest/blockade... our eldest had gone out and not been seen for about 4 hours - I think he was about 7 or 8 at the time.

ALL the local kids and neighbours were out helping us look for him.

Phoned the police to be told they can't do anything at the moment as all their officers are manning petrol stations.

Agree- maybe we all should all run planes thereby negating the tax issue of fuel
