radio unlocking
« on: September 07, 2005, 19:28:46 »
I have had the battery disconnected on my 1995 300tdi and when I reconnected it my son, trying to help, put the wrong code into the radio. The question is what do I have to do to unlock it? Do I have to remove the radio and have it unlocked?

Sometimes if you disconnect the power for long enough it will reset itself again. You only normally need to decode them, if you have lost the original code. Take it out, and try again in the morning. Assuming you do have the right code. :D

I suppose it depends on teh radio but most of them you just try again. The pain is that it takes longer to accept a new code every time that you get it wrong so after 3 or four goes it will take anout an hour before it will accept another go.

I have never seen one yet where you have to take it out and go pay somebody. Think about it, that would not make sence, everybody makes mistakes sometimes.

I agree, I kept messing up putting a code into an old one of mine (I was doing it wrong rather than using the wrong numbers), and each time you got it wrong the delay kept on going up, 1 min, 2 mins, 5 mins, 15 mins, 45 mins, etc and you had to have the radio 'on' for the full time or else the clock started counting again when you turned it on.

I would only have it reprogrammed as a last resort - especially as it costs (can you tell I'm an accountant - scrooge is my hero!)
