I received one with a question about a seedoo i have never had, or seen. I clicked the link which then made you sign into ebay.....which i did without thinking. I then scurried round on my usual method of getting onto ebay and changed my password quick smart. I use a different one for paypal anywat. I think its a very sneeky scam. If i had been asked for my paypal sign on i wouldnt have done it, how many people out there use the same password for both??? LOADS!

If he has a Rolls and a new house he can afford a posh keyboard with a capslock key, and a dictionary.

I read a fantastic article the other day on the nature of Internet crime being far more impersonal than standard methods of fraud and are percieved to some extent as being victimless.

Not much of a consolation when you're the victim of course, but with relatively few methods of prosecuting anyone and not many more ways of claiming compensation, you have to admit they may have a point.

Tell him ok, but your safe is broke and he can just leave the gear in the glove box of the roller, and let you hang on to it till he raises the cash

I had an odd one once selling a car on eBay.  Romanian chap wanted to buy it, and seemed fine on the phone, but I got cc'd on a mail sent from him to some chamber of commerce in Romania and it all started to get very surreal.

The risk of getting stung outweighs the benefits to me so I just walked away.  If anything sounds doubtful I'll leave it - there are plenty of good buyers out there, so why take the risk of a dubious one?

had something similar but was from albania not romania.
Got all the normal "I like your item very much and i bid on it with your aproval. yes?" mail and then started sending mails about how his agent in the UK would need to view the car and he would offer over the asking price if i shipped to albania or could this guys agent collect etc

eventualy just sent him a mail saying that the car would not be going anywhere untill all funds had cleared.

Strangley enougth never heard from him again

Beware - cleared funds doesn't mean you have the money.

One such scam involves forged banker's drafts.  These will clear in your account, but several weeks later the bank will reverse the funds when they discover the forgery.  The only way to confirm these is to ring the issuing bank - but even then, when I tried this with my local Lloyds (slogan:  "The Clueless Idiot Bankers") they knew less about it than I did.

The scams Woody got above were probably one of these.

even a personal cheque with cleared funds can be retracted by your bank several weeks hence. One of my customers got stung about 18 months ago, evded up about 5 k out of pocket and then had to take a loan to pay off the sudden overdraft. Their bank werent any help at all...I work for a bank by the way. Cash its the only really safe way to do it, and dont forget the scum bags could be casing your house at the same time!
