Could I Be Lucky?
« on: October 01, 2005, 22:16:08 »
We were due to go over to 'Royston Vasey-by-the-Sea' where the BWSOW is on a site this morning to take down the awning & bring all the detritus home.
The in-laws had been there overnight, so had started the 'bug-out' procedure.

As we got into it, or she did, as I pushed the trailer up the drive, a voice called out.

"There's a pool of water on the mat & the top of the dash is wet!!"

"Yes, my sweet, the windscreen surround leaks"
Then I casually mentioned that it needs new springs, shocks & bushes

"Well, you're fed up with it & don't like it that much, why not sell it & buy a Defender" (she's fluent in LR, my wife  )
"You still miss your 110 & want another 90 or 110"

Bingo!!!!
My cunning plan worked. :D  :D (even though I never thought she'd fall for it)

So from our house till as far as York, in between doing Surgical Facilities spread-sheets (for Leicester Royal) on her Lap-Top, she was telling me to get it sorted out & then casually asked;
"How much is a new 90 Hard-Top??"

I replied that I thought perhaps £16,500 to drive away, but I'm not in the habit of looking at the price of brand new ones, it upsets me

At the shed, she told her parents that seeing as I don't go on holidays with them & hence saving money, she thinks I can have one :D  :D  :D

However, I'm not holding out any great hopes, as I've been in a similar situation before;
'An Offer....'

Still we emptied the awnings contents, took it down & packed the Ifor-Williams.
It's amazing how much stuff you have at one of the things

An an aside, I filled up with 'Bio-Diesel' on the outskirts of York.
£30.00 at 79.5p/litre.

As I pulled in I'd just done 375miles since the last fill up (the Monday, or Tuesday, before the fuel protests) & the needle was 'bang on' half-full - including the trip there & back, so not too shabby economy wise??
See how the 'Bio' goes, also a very tidy silver 'V' plated Range Rover DSE pulled in behind me

My sentiments exactly, but ... y'know........women.

A nice late (post 26th August 98 ) Coniston Green CSW would be perfect :D

Alternatively, do I push for a (Tdi'd) 101FC? (could be fun at work, or with the BWSOW    )

You'll be lucky, and I might now

SWMBO has just phoned a few minutes ago.

The chap who came to measure up for new windows (mainly D/G sash) has called her up at Leicester with the quote

Lets just say.

It's probably the same cost as a year old 90CSW

To paraphrase; A Yorkshiremans home is his etc.....

It's not that big, Ben Kentzer can vouch for the modest size of it, he came up not long after we moved in

No seriously, it was built on land that belonged to the owner of the local brickworks.
According to the 1899 deeds, it & the adjacent semi, were built essentially as show-houses to display his bricks & tradesmens skills.
I know they're good quality bricks from when I've tried to drill them

The original gardens were over 300yards long when built
The present day plot was 450foot front to back, but the previous owners sold off about 130foot & there's a house in our back-garden

By the way 'Jim', do you know this building in Heckmondwike (don't know if I've asked you before??)

I wonder if I can swing her round to Australia, or Japan.

No the name was changed recently, I can't remember what its called now as everyone still called it the Mandarin.  They changed the name of two local pubs too and we still use the old names I don't know why they bother!

I know a forum with members who are selling a couple of Defender 50th's. I believe one is already LPG converted

But surely another 50th would have the same problems yours has, such as the leaking window seals, I would have thought Mrs BTM would have had you buying a new/newer one.

I know it is a Defender you are after (as you have a Discovery at the moment), but if they are both 50th anniversary editions then they would both be of a similar age, so would they not be suffering from similar problems.

i.e. would the Defender not have leaking seals in the same was as your Discovery does.

Sorry BTM, I should have made it more clear what I was trying to say.
