Wheel and tyre packages
« on: October 08, 2005, 18:09:59 »
I know it's probably been discussed before but ..........
I'm looking for a wheel and tyre package for a td5 90.
I'd like tyres that are good off road but reasonable on road.
These would be used just for greenlaning and the odd play day.

Anyone any ideas? - but they have to be good value - can't really afford over £350 - £400 for wheels and tyres - the cheaper the better!

Cheers
Darren

Why not kep your existing wheels and put the money into some good tyres.  With that budget you should get some good 'uns.  I run Bridgestone M/T's, they aren't as good as some other M/T's in the mud but run practically silently on the road and aren't that dear.

A/T tyres maybe what you're looking for but you may find that you'll find them wanting in some offroad conditions.
M/Ts will be better iin the mud and if you go for the better known names like BFG, Bridgestone, General Grabber then the road noise wont be noticed and the onroad grip is very good for a chunky tyre.

I run General Grabber MT's on the Disco and they are fine. Good on road manners, little noise, not a bad price and very good offroad.

i've got general grabber AT's on at the moment (the standard fitment) which have only let us down in the most muddiest conditions.
Think i'll make a decision after next weekend cos we're off to eastnor to drive the course there with the missus's works club (luckily she works for landrover ) so we'll see how we get on!
