Police response time to 999 call ...what a joke
« on: October 11, 2005, 22:46:39 »
I really wish this was funny, but it isnt.

One of my form, a 14 year old lad, came back from an american holiday on sunday. Monday morning he was still jet lagged so mom left him in bed whilst she and hubby went to work.

At around 11am, Dale was woken up by a noise. It turned out it was 2 burglars in his bedroom. They threatened him with a knife and what he took to be a crow bar and told him that if he moved they would 'do him'.

When he heard the door close he made his way to his parents bedroom and called 999 from their phone, explained what had happened and then still terrified he went and hid in a cupboard.

He waited for THREE HOURS for the police to turn up.

Personally I find this sickening.

he should have said there was an rta (road traffic accident)they would turn up in droves ,the thought of cornering thieves scares them to death .i also have expeience of the police "hanging back" giving criminals time to escape.the force are full of chickens

Sadly I dont think this is an isolated incident. I had to ask for an officer to attend when i had my bike stolen. They were informed about the theft 3 hours before i discovered it but made no attempt to contact me or visit the scene of crime. Crap service thats all i can say!

Don't think that will make any difference, when i had a smackhead by the throat who had damaged our car & his mate in ther car produced a gun & told me to let him go my wife was on a 999 call at the time & it still took them nearly two hours,

As ever, without knowing the full details of the case, it is hard to comment... but don't necessarily be too quick to blame the actual force.

Our local post office was robbed at gunpoint and the police took 2 hours to arrive....   all manner of complaints were raised and it transpires that the problems were in the call centres and not within the Police services themselves.

Part of the problem is that our Police aren't 'local' any more

Yes i know what you'r saying Tim, some of them who work in the call centers are ''wanabe police officers'',  if you know what i mean, i'm not having a go at the police as i wouln't want there job & i have family in the force its just the system on a whole that stinks,

Blimey, not great!

I have to say at a recent off road weekend at Sibertoft and we were camped at the end of the runway

A load of joy riders drove onto the runway and were doing doughnuts and getting scarily close to the tents so we rand the police

We had 2 cop cars AND the helicopter (which did a full sweep of the runway) in less than 10 mins!!

Now that is service!!!  :D

We see quite a lot of the Police for various reasons; Assaults, RTA's, 'knock-downs', plus their customers that are brought in
If they're called, due to a violent/aggressive patient,  (like last Friday  )they get there as soon as they can as they know where the calls come from & the call-centre seems to give the Hospital priority.

Admittedly, they sometimes have to priorotise their staff, same as anyone else.

When our BWSOW was almost nicked, they attended the scene to speak to witnesses within 15minutes. We were seen within 2 hours to be told what their immediate enquiries had wrought.

Someone we know at the Hospital had their BWSOW nicked & her hubby (attached to CID) pulled a few strings & the chopper was put up (or it was up already??)

Admittedly  , we (collectively) have a direct line to 'Wood Street' (Wakefields main Police Station) so we can cut out the call-centres

Only 3 years? :o  I'm still waiting 8 years after I chased off 3 lads sneaking around at 11 at night.  Gave discription of car to. Early Fiesta, driven away with no lights on, so no number but with dent in tailgate caused by cobble thrown by me. But I do live down a single track lane, 3/4 mile from main road. A few months back, one Sunday morning on said main road, fatal RTA just passed my lane end. Seven police cars and ten officers turned up.

My ex wife was punched in the face at her own front door. Nothing to do with me but she thought so as he was masked and about my hight which is not alot. She phoned the police and told them it took them 2 weeks to get in contact with me for a questioning. That is just sad. why did they even bother....

Also I have a bad memory.....err where was I. OH yes. They saked me Where was you on september 12th at 4.12pm Two weeks later....
Good job my woman has a good memory to refresh mine.....

But if someone phoned up and told them theres a Landrover spinning his wheels in some mud on a greenlane they would get the Helicopter out....and that stupid heat camera to check out how hot ya tyres are...
