Hello, has anybody any experience of the above, i'm thinking of getting a set to use at offroad playdays and to get me to the events. I don't much care how they handle on the road (87n is legal on a 90) as they will only be used to and from but if anyone has seen 'em in action in the gloop i would be interested to hear how they go. They look like they should be very good.

is that not the diamond pattern,if it is there are standard fitment on nearly all trials & racers up n down the country because they work,only suface they struggle on is wet stony tracks,also the sound like a B52 taking of at 60mph

The Hankook RT01's I got are good in the mud. You will have to have a look at them this weekend....

The pic don't do it any favours...They are more grippy than they look.

I think i'll get me a set when money allows. i've got these at the moment which work on all surfaces except mud which is a bit of a drawback as seen as they are M/T's

Very similar to mine, you wouldn't have got up the hill first time either.

if you get the diamond pattern tyres in a 750 size you will find places youve never been before,the only prob ive found in a competition environment is once you start spinning the wheels 1 of 2 things happen,you go up/over/through etc or you go down as they make nice holes

I have the same rover as yourself with rostyles fitted with Bronco 235/85/16 RoughRiders BF Goodridge MT copy they are exellent both on off a well behaved tyre at 1/3 Goodridge price , my second set last ones did 37,000 only renewed because of cuts,

are the diamond shaped ones road legal?

if so be very careful on how you drive with them!

if road legality isnt a problem (trailed vehicle) then get them big r'sed anacondas i think they are called!

The Atacama is 87n rated but would only be used to and from offroad sites. I expect they're hell on the road but i could put up with em for the occasional use i have in mind.

Just make sure they are properly 'E' marked too... else they won't be legal

E Marked?

They are made by Greenway and advertised as 90/10 so i think a phone call may be in order. Where is the E mark and what does it look like?

Just checked and they are Emarked and speed rated to 81/87 which is faster than my 90 ever goes so the decision is made. Ta for your help (We really do need a salute smiley) :)

That might not be the deciding factor... The Speed Rating is for whatever speed landrover declared your motor can do, not what speed you think it's sane to drive at..

It's probably worth checking what the speed rating for the vehicles is (yes it is dependant on engine)

This speed rating thing is a bit of a game isn't it?

Having a B reg 90 which was probably a diesel originally I assume it's that top speed I use for speed rating not a guessed one for its current 200 TDI?

I have asked insurance vehicle inspectors if they take a good look at tyres when claims are made and they said in principle yes and if it was obvious the tyres were extreme or damaged they might look further but they said it was probably more likely in general they'd not take a great interest. As for the police I have no idea.

Then again I propsoe to get correctly speed rated tyres which ruling a lot of diamonds out.

I don't know the quoted top speed for a Defender 90 TDI but it must be below 87mph. Maybe somebody can clarify for me?

I've had the speedo on a 90 tdi register higher than that. Don't know if it was accurate but the steering wheel took some holding to keep in a straight line :)

I think what he is saying is to be totaly legal you must find out what LANDROVER themself rated your 90 to go at and as long as the tyres are over that limit then they are ok. :D

I think its not a fact of what you can get out of your motor its what they say it will do OFFICIALLY....God I can't spell.

But like me if you have a series that will do 85mph ( NEVER AGAIN ) then it be a good Idea to have tyres that will do 85mph at least just so you dont have a suprise when you are being silly well VERY SILLY.....

Has anybody tryed to keep a series landy in a straight line at that speed. Trust me you do not need the experience.. But funny enough yesterday it would not do 40mph.....FUEL FILTER....

But my B reg 90 would have been at best a diesel TD so is that the speed I should rate the tyres for or for a later model with TDI which is now fitted?

It's obvious to me that the higher speed is only due on part to an improved engine and in part to other 'improvements' like er aerodynamic styling etc.

I assume that really so long as I've shown willing they won't get too heavy.
