Are there any 'Practical Classics'readers out there?

Do they remember this Marina???

It's a pity that you can't post photos on the 'Hazzard Net'. or I'd put it there for our trans-Atlantic cousins to share

Somehow though, I don't think 79cubic inch will excite them. Do you?

That brings back memories - my parents used to have an Ital, the successor to the Marina, although I don't think it was any more popular.

I'm on Dartmoor at the weekend, home of the Postbridge hump-back bridge - sometimes visitors stand by it during the summer giving marks out of 10.  An ex-girlfriend was camping there one night and heard a commotion in the night - somebody had a mid-air collision with a stationary pony.  Not good for car or pony  :x

Now shall I be *really* sad??

That is the first of the Mk2 facelift Marina's. I had an 'L' plate Mk1 Coupe 1.3 (steady now, don't get over excited!). It was my first car after I found I couldn't get insurance for a Lotus Europa...... can't imagine why at the tender age of 17

The Marina was really only a Morris 1000 in different clothing. There were subtle differences in suspension design, but the basic layout was the same.

I remember I learned all about terminal understeer at a very young age! It needed plenty of snow and violent steering inputs to get the back out, but once you did, you could just about hold a slide around roundabouts   Not that I ever drove like that on the public road of course

Sold it after about 6 months and bought an MG Midget.

I live close to edgeware road and its a very arabic area and they are fanatical about flash cars.

Sometimes to the point of them risking banckrupcy as its all about their status in the area

Anyway, one bloke has just bought a Ferrari "copy"

Its a bright yellow F40 copy with a peco exhaust.  From a distance it does look like a ferrari BUT its shorter.  When you look closely its a mazda underneath a rather poor quality body shell!!!

Best bet, hes so adament its a real ferrari he's even joined the owners club and put a sticker in the window!!!

I keep trying to grab a picture, I will do soon and I'll post it, well worth a laugh!!!!

You needed an 1800 TC engine in there  . I did just that and kept the 1300 diff on.
You could do a standing start in 4th, and a wheelspin at will in every other gear(or should I say 1st,2nd and 3rd for all the youngest members who can't remember life before 5 speed gearboxes).

If you did a standing start in 2nd and changed straight to 4rth you could do 0 - 60 in about 5 seconds.

One thing I do remember is the amount of tires I went through doing a burnup at nearly every junction (because I could)

It's probably safe to say we both lead a much more sedate life these days! Comes to something when you admit to getting more sedate than a Marina

Steve,

I share your sadness .... after all, I had an M reg Marina 1.3 myself when I was 18 (traded up from a Renault 12 which is still possibly the most comfortable car I've ever owned)

Sold the Marina to get a J plate Cortina estate (more room for the mattress       )

I do remember having plans to paint it red with a white stripe like the Starsky & Hutch Ford Toreno. It was a Coupe after all and might just have suited it......

Oh no! Now I'm *really* showing my age

Never did paint it!
