Paddocks are doing good deals on defender safari snorkels at the moment - seen them as low as £118 - didnt look at Disco systems but it may be worth asking them incase there is a general safari promo going on.

Nice shot  :D

Same as mine, but must confess no trouble fitting it like you've had which is a bit odd  :?

Anyway it's on now and ready to roll

I had a quick ring round - nothing too extensive - all the prices seemed much the same £145 + VAT and delivery.
I got mine from www.mm-4x4.co.uk in the end, I tried Paddocks - it took them 4 hours to ring me back with a price, meantime I'd orderd one and paid for it.
Paul do you still want some fitting pics ?

Rob,

It would be nice if you could send / display some fitting pictures,
I will then be able to see what has got to happen to the wing...

Looks like a trip to Nottingham for fitting, Thanks Ed..

Anyone know what this  :?:
And more importantly what it does :?:
I've looked in the Bible according to Haynes and can see no mention of it.
Anyway - I've taken it off 'cos it wouldn't fit with the front diff guard. It bolted to the steering damper mounting bracket which is attached to the axle. I looked on my Hybrid and there isn't one there.

Any ideas  :?:

Its the harmonic damper for damping harmonics.

Or for absorbing vibrations from the axle to stop them going through the steering back to the steering wheel.

I've known of a few people who have took this off with no adverse effects, see how it drives if it feels any different.

Cheers Chris

I new it was a harmonic something or other - but I didn't know what it was for.
Any idea how it works ? It seems to be just a heavy steel disc, rubber mounted to an inner steel disc - do they work or is it just dead weight :?:

Thanks

Chris has got it spot on.

I put mine back on when the front QT guard was fitted, needed a bit of a jig about but it went on.

I was'nt sure what it was for at the time so thought well if its there its there for a reason.

Looking good though so far, just the snorkel to go

Hi Andy

I don't think mine will be after Sunday
I'd have to grind a bit off the bracket to make the harmonic damper fit - you could be right - I might refit it tommorrow - my old 200tdi shakes and rattles enough as it without adding to it

Your Rebel Guard - did it fit close to the chassis rails ? Mine was nowhere near.

In QT's fitting instructions they recommend removing it.
It hasn't done anything detrimental to mine.

Silly me!
I thought it was just a skid of sorts.  :?  8)

If you disconnect it.
The bit that made the harmonica work could be used to pump up tyres etc.

OK...

Well

I don't seem to be having much luck with the parts I've bought.
Check out the picture and see if you can see a slight flaw which might allow water to get in :!:
I've had enough Landrovers to know they are not an exact science, I've also bought parts before that don't quite fit, but this thing is nowhere near ( and that's without the 20mm the instructions say you should trim off the snout of the air filter housing !! )
It is definately the right Snorkel, I would have thought I would be not expecting too much, after paying £180, to get the part to at least look like it fits !!
Moan over.
I've no time to [!Expletive Deleted!] about - Tong on Sunday :D .
I'll be putting it right tommorrow with some 3" tubing.
Any one else had this joy with a Safari snorkel ?

Rob

p.s It looks good on the outside, see the pic below.

Hi Paul

A pic of what you'll have to do to your wing to fit it, as requested

Rob,

Should you not have a RED Discovery parking
it in that very clean garage..

Snorkel looks very nice, I see in the photo that
you have a bolt removed from the top of the wing,
Did you have to remove the wing to do the fitting..?

The holes look a bit shocking, Hope my mate
gets them in the right place...

Hi Paul

You have very good eyesight  It was the only place light enough to take a pic  :!:

No, you don't have to take the wing off, just that one self tapper - to shorten it, to stop it fouling the snorkel. You have to remove the plastic wheel arch liner though, and the stupid little clips are a [!Expletive Deleted!] to get off and back on.

I hope the one you get is a better fit than mine.

Just out of interest Rob, you did get one for a 200 series and not a 300?

Not sure if there would be a difference what with me having a Mantec fitted.

Looks good though  :D

Rob,

Sounds like fun,

My mate has fitted one already to his Disco
So it should be alot easier than doing it myself.. :)

Don't forget to add the Snorkel to your signature..

Hi Andy

Yep, definately for a 200, it said so on the box and the instructions. I suppose they could have boxed it up wrong, but it's too much hassle trying to sort it out with the supplier - I'll make it fit.

On mine, which admittedly is a 300, there is a short length of rubber tubing that's used to connect the inside part to the outside. As Steve says, I wonder if you've got a bit missing?

I've just added a load of pictures to my website showing the different stages of installing my snorkel.

I emailed the ill fitting picture to the supplier, below is their full response:

"I take it your vehicle is a pre '91 200 Tdi ?

The kit will only fit '91 onwards, this is explained when you purchased the
kit, but all you need to do is make up a joining piece to connect them
together.

I quite clearly told them it was for a 1990 and they told me it would fit - after all , would I pay £180 for something that wouldn't

"but all you need to do is make up a joining piece to connect them
together." ????????????????????? What marvellous customer service !! Shouldn't they be the ones to be making up a joining piece - after all, they make it sound so easy !!!

So, if you own a a pre 1991 be warned.

I always sem to find out the hard way.
