Northmead Hi,
I used to own one from 1993 up to 1996.
I now own a pair of genuine Camel Trophy Discos (200Tdi, 1993 and 1994 evented ones)
But there are LOTS and LOTS of Mpi Discos in Greece where I live and I happen to know a few things about them.
So if you need anything just shout or send an e-mail to pantg@otenet.gr
Take care

i got one (well my mum has) i drive it some times prefer my Diesel (its cheap) and my dads V8 (all the lass' think you have a wicked car because it sounds nice)
dont know what it tows like as it does not have a tow bar but it is ok on a rope (towing and being towed)
but the 2.0 does go ok i race ford focus' and saxo's and beat them (they are real Chickens) (hope My Mum doesn't read this

Ben Hi,
If you really want to race small hatchbacks and have then eat your dust (sort of speaking) you could remove the normally aspirated 2.0 Mpi engine and install a turbocharged Rover 2.0 engine in it. It is literaly the same engine, has the same engine mounts, fits exactly to the gearbox and bellhousing of the standard Mpi gearbox and has 180 to 220 bhp.
Only thing to be careful of is to find a distributorless one.
I have not done this engine swap but has been done here in Greece (where the first turbocharged Mpi was created, sent to the LR factory for evaluation and unfortunately did not make it to production because the marketing people did not like that it was faster than the 3.5 V8 model that existed back then. I have driven this car because it was created by one of my mechanics)
Take care

Hi Pantg....Do you know if the original MPI ECU can be used, and are all the ECU sensor and electrical connections to the engine are the same ?

500bhp Hi,
the ECU of the 2.0 Turbo engine has to be used.
But on the other hand this ECU can be easily tweaked in excess of 250 bhp. So it is a very interesting project.
I have been told that the donor engine must come complete with the wiring loom, ECU, airflow etc.
The only bits that need to be custom made are the engine to radiator hoses, the exhaust downpipe from the turbocharger to the vehicle's existing exhaust catalyst and middle and back sections and to the intercooler which has to be a totally custom made unit along with its pipework.
Take care

Interesting idea!
Do you have any photos of the engine bay and the customisation work that happened ?

unfortunately not.
I know of the mechanic who has modified one Mpi by fitting a 2.0 turbo engine, in fact I spoke with him in the presence of the general manager of the spare parts department of Land Rover Greece, so it is absolutely sure that he was not talking nonsense.
But have NOT seen it with my own eyes.
The turbocharged vehicle I have driven back in 1993 (may have been very early 1994) was based on the Mpi engine with a custom made exhaust manifold so as to fit the turbocharger and using a modified Mpi ECU with additional 5th injector etc.
The 2.0 Turbo engine does NOT require those parts as per the description I have heard of.
Take care

Hi Guys
This is getting very interesting ,
Is there anything you can do to a standard 2.0 Ltr MPI Engine to make it go better (More Pulling Power) Pulling My Caravan.
Not Worried about Speed. As mine will go at 70 MPH all Day.
What about MPG i am getting about 22 - 25 on a run

You can have a camshaft reprofile like I did, it gives a lot more lower grunt, I think kent cams in the UK will do it for you.
